AIN ASSAD AIR BASE, Iraq — Iran struck back Tuesday for the killing of a top Iranian general last week, firing a series of ballistic missiles at two Iraqi bases housing U.S. troops in a major escalation.
Iranian state TV reported the strikes were in retaliation for the killing of Revolutionary Guard Gen. Qassem Soleimani, whose death Friday prompted angry calls to avenge his slaying.
A U.S. official said there were no immediate reports of American casualties.

Update 9:30 a.m. EST Jan. 8: President Donald Trump is expected to speak Wednesday morning amid rising tensions between the U.S. and Iran.
Trump is expected to speak at 11 a.m., according to White House officials.

I agree. It is like they picked up their marbles, had a hissy fit and went home.
US pulling out of Iraq per their request. Leaving small contingency to clear up necessary matters.
Iraq has not formally requested anything. Reports are that they even backed away from that non-binding resolution.
I doubt very much that Trump would do anything right now that could be construed as a capitulation.

I figure timing of his statement is so all of the US is awake when he makes it. That is, he’s not timing it to coincide with a kinetic strike in Iran.
