Senate GOP wants speedy Trump acquittal
The Hill ^ | December 28, 2019 | Jordan Carney

Senate Republicans are plotting a speedy acquittal of President Trump as they strategize ahead of the impeachment trial.

After weeks of public haggling from within the caucus, GOP senators are largely lining up behind a shorter proceeding with few, if any, witnesses, paving the way for them to hand Trump an early election-year victory.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said his goal is “to have as short a trial as possible.”

“I think there's a desire by senators, quite honestly, to get this chapter closed and moved forward,” Graham told reporters.

Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) said that when it comes to a trial “shorter is better,” and that he thought his colleagues were coalescing behind that.

“I think shorter is better for lots of reasons,” Cramer said. “I think people are ready to move on.”

Republicans are also stressing though that they don’t want to simply dismiss the articles against Trump. The House voted earlier this month to impeach Trump on two counts: one charging him with abuse of power in his dealings with Ukraine and the second with obstructing Congress during its investigation of those actions.

“I’m ready to get this thing and get it done,” said Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.). “It’s time for him to have his day in court. … I don’t want to a vote to dismiss. I want a vote to acquit. The president deserves to have due process.”

Graham, who previously advocated dismissing the articles, added that a “motion dismissed will not stand. … I don't want a motion to dismiss. I want a vote on the articles themselves.”

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who has emerged as a close ally of Trump’s, has floated trying to dismiss the article

Democrat Pelosi’s never-ending game (the permanent impeachment)
NYPOST.COM ^ | 12/27/19 | EDITORIAL
FR Posted on 12/29/2019, 8:22:52 AM by Liz

Democrat Nancy Pelosi’s delay in transmitting the articles of impeachment to the Senate “puts politics ahead of the US Constitution,” declares Peter Roff at Newsweek. Pelosi claims she wants to be assured the Senate will hold a “fair” trial, yet that’s the height of political hypocrisy, given that the House’s impeachment process was so “manifestly unfair.”

Besides, “if Harvard’s Noah Feldman is right and the president is not deemed to have been impeached until the articles are forwarded,” why should the Senate prepare for a trial? Pelosi just wants “another bite of the apple.”

Democrats have been trying to impeach President Trump for “most of his administration,” and there’s word they may now try to impeach him a second time. Just as Bill Clinton gave us “the permanent campaign,” Pelosi and her allies are giving America “the permanent impeachment.” “Will it ever end?” asks Roff. “Probably not.”(Excerpt) Read more at nypost.com ...

Just a few witnesses:

Hunter Biden, the bag man for the Biden Crime Family

Paul Pelosi, the bag man for the Pelosi Crime Family

The Heinz son who was on a Ukraine oil company payroll

Willard Romney's business associate who was on a Ukraine oil company payroll

Eric Ciaramella

Then a vote. After, of course, the media big channels all agree to broadcast the entire time of the witness testifying.

THE FOUNDERS’ NIGHTMARE: DEMOCRATS FORGING AN EXTRA-LEGAL PATH TO TOTAL POWER OVER AMERICANS:
The rushed House articles were a means to an end – House lawyers could argue in court that all of the constitutionally contended material required as evidence for pending judicial proceedings....... a trial in the Senate. (hat tip conservative treehouse)

ITS SHOWTIME .....all the prior evidence debated for inclusion and legal additions to “articles of impeachment” were dropped. Instead the House focused only on quickly framing two articles that could facilitate pending court cases. Remember, the House never voted to “authorize the full judicial impeachment process;” they voted to approve an “inquiry” into whether an impeachment should take place.

MARK THIS WELL By not voting to authorize articles of impeachment the House never gained ‘judicial enforcement authority‘. The house wrecking crew have assembled a back-door attempt to position a valid claim for evidence against the accused without having first gained judicial authority for it.

NO witnesses!
The Democrats want witnesses so they can say, “This testimony raises questions. The House must hold new hearings to answer these questions”.

I have come around to believing this is the best path forward. For awhile I thought a protracted 6 week “trial” would be good to tie up senators running for president, but now I see, they are such losers, it wouldn’t matter. Meanwhile they would come up with more fake charges and “witnesses” that come out of the woodwork. No, short is better.

So I could see a 2 day ‘trial”, with no more than 3 witnesses for each side. And if our witnesses refuse to appear, (i.e., Joe B, Hunter B and the “whistleblower) then their witnesses cannot appear. Thus Trump gets his day in court, but we, as a country are not tied up indefinitely over this.

Yeah, I've noticed in the past few weeks that the libs are playing with language again.

Tweets by DJT now are being described by the MSM as "raging", "seething", "ranting", "raving" or something else like that.

Maybe they're going to try a rerun of the psych evaluation from his tweets.

Their dump Trump ship looks to be sinking and like rats everywhere in this position, they're becoming desperate.

linda sez: her goal is “to have as short a trial as possible.”

“I think there’s a desire by senators, quite honestly, to get this chapter closed and moved forward,” Graham told reporters.

With all the money laundering going on with a sizable chunk of the haul going to politicos, it’s no wonder linda and her buds want to get this over with ASAP. Don’t want to take a chance on the truth coming out.

Talk, talk, talk. But the gutless coward GOP senators will not change the rules so that the Senate can reject the phony charges with prejudice.

Suuuuure they want a speedy trial; way too much to be exposed in a protracted battle. Can’t have any RINOS exposed, now, can we?

I now agree that short is better due, exactly, to “the public is sick of this.”

You're right. This is very dangerous.
