An MSNBC guest told Craig Melvin this morning that evangelical Christian supporters of President Donald Trump are often more faithful to the president than to religious teaching.
Business Insider columnist Linette Lopez was speaking with Melvin on MSNBC Live on Monday morning, where they were discussing a Christianity Today editorial that called for the removal of Trump from office and the backlash it received from Trump supporters.
Its taken three years for an evangelical magazine to distance itself from a president who has said some things that do not align with the teachings of Jesus Christ, who has done some things that arguably do not align themselves with the teachings of Jesus Christ. What do you think is behind this sudden breakup, if you will? Melvin asked
Evangelical political activity has not always been in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ, she said. And, you know, so its quite possible this is an awakening because there are Christians who is see the full loyalty of evangelical Christians theyre giving their full loyalty to the president and not to God.
A lot of Trump supporters, theyre performing for Trump. They say whatever Trump wants to say. Trump has their full loyalty, Lopez continued, going on to explain the history of political participation from evangelical Americans. Trump is not in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ.
It seems like evangelicals who support Trump want to punish their enemies. Theyre thinking about an old testament God, a God who uplifts them and it isnt necessarily a very Christ-like feeling, she said.
Don’t you love how atheists explain the Bible to Christians.
Someone needs to remind pompous bloviating fools that lying and bearing false witness are still sins. Real Christians stand with the truth even when it challenges their political indoctrination. Here is the truth
FLASHBACK, 2018: Joe Biden Brags At CFR Meeting About Withholding Aid To Ukraine To Force Firing Of Prosecutor
Just because Biden is now a political opponent does not make him immune from investigation for possible wrong doing while VP. The Democrat party has reckless lied to the US People during this whole impeachment scam. The President has both a legal and a moral obligation to have this investigated. Their Abuse of power accusation is an absurd lie with not a hint of shred of a clue of either legal, or moral, legitimacy
Showing us all once again that these dipsticks know nothing about faith, God nor evangelicals.
Its getting quite boring
The devil is always trying to sew division among Christians. You can bet when someone condemns an action as “that’s not very Christian of you”, they aren’t the least concerned with the witness of Christ’s disciples but all about scoring points to discredit or silence their opposition. It’s one of Satan’s (and liberals’) favorite tricks.
I bet this evil witch is a full blown baby killing advocate.
She has no business talking about God or even mentioning his Holy Name.
Someone is increasingly desperate about trying to find a crack in the wall to work on widening. I don’t think they learned a thing from 2016.
It's the judges, stupid.
That’s fair enough. I’ve got no loyalty to her god.
God forbid we worship him, but it may be said that devout evangelicals support Trump like as persecuted pilgrims may choose and support a brash and (too often falsely) outspoken captain to get them to their desired destination, because that is the general starboard direction he is determined to sail, and takes actions to get there.
And is overall undaunted despite very strong headwinds pushing him to port, and canon fire aimed at him and his passengers by competing captains and crews, who sail to port side on a destructive course and take actions to get there, to a final destination no wise person should want to end up in.
The Left accuses us of hypocrisy by voting for and supporting Trump, yet do they really expect we would be consistent with what we believe by voting Democrat? Really? Failing that, they want us to not vote at all, and employ a false analogy btwn choosing a spiritual and moral leader as a pastor from among any candidates we choose from, versus the best secular general we see from among a field we have very limited power over, and to fight a war against us, and who is best fit for that earthly battle.
Indeed. It is true that when you claim to try live according to the high standards of Scripture, based upon what it clearly states, then you are a target for those who have not this standard. And who compel Scripture to support their immorality.
I think they just want us to stop voting period.
DUH!
I hope not too much time was wasted figgerin' THIS out!
Could have written something similar about Catholics:
... Many Catholics Show Full Loyalty to the Pope and Not to God
... Many Mormons Show Full Loyalty to the Living Prophet® and Not to the two personages.'
In conclusion let us summarize this grand key, these Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet, for our salvation depends on them.
1. The prophet is the only man who speaks for the Lord in everything.
2. The living prophet is more vital to us than the standard works.
3. The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet.
4. The prophet will never lead the church astray.
5. The prophet is not required to have any particular earthly training or credentials to speak on any subject or act on any matter at any time.
6. The prophet does not have to say Thus Saith the Lord, to give us scripture.
7. The prophet tells us what we need to know, not always what we want to know.
8. The prophet is not limited by mens reasoning.
9. The prophet can receive revelation on any matter, temporal or spiritual.
10. The prophet may advise on civic matters.
11. The two groups who have the greatest difficulty in following the prophet are the proud who are learned and the proud who are rich.
12. The prophet will not necessarily be popular with the world or the worldly.
13. The prophet and his counselors make up the First Presidencythe highest quorum in the Church.
14. The prophet and the presidencythe living prophet and the First Presidencyfollow them and be blessedreject them and suffer.
I testify that these fourteen fundamentals in following the living prophet are true. If we want to know how well we stand with the Lord then let us ask ourselves how well we stand with His mortal captainhow close do our lives harmonize with the Lords anointedthe living ProphetPresident of the Church, and with the Quorum of the First Presidency.
