WASHINGTON The day after the House cast historic votes to impeach President Trump, Speaker Nancy Pelosi put an abrupt halt on the proceedings, holding back from sending the charges to the Republican-led Senate in a politically risky bid to exert influence over the contours of an election-year trial.
With some leading Democrats pushing to delay transmittal of the articles and others advocating that they be withheld altogether, the limbo is likely to persist until the new year. The House left town on Thursday for a two-week holiday recess without taking the votes to appoint impeachment managers, which is required to start the process in the Senate.
We are ready, said Ms. Pelosi, who has said she would not send the charges or name the lawmakers who would prosecute the case against Mr. Trump until she was certain of a fair process for a Senate trial. When we see what they have, we will know who and how many we will send over.
By withholding the articles, Ms. Pelosi is hoping that Mr. Trump who is eager for a trial to present his defense and clear his name will put pressure on Senator Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky and the majority leader, to commit to Democratic demands, including the ability to call witnesses during the trial.
But the speakers strategy is also a gamble. Having toiled to present the House impeachment inquiry and the votes on Wednesday as a somber duty rooted in the Constitution, Ms. Pelosi risks appearing to politicize the matter if she withholds the charges for negotiating leverage.
And Mr. McConnell was entirely unmoved by Ms. Pelosis tactics, delivering a speech on Thursday evening in which he appeared barely able to contain his amusement at what he regarded as the speakers missteps.

What this all means is that until the Articles of Impeachment are filed in the Senate, they remain only an action in the House.
............
So, Trump is still impeached but not yet, or ever, tried.
............
The Articles of Impeachment do expire at the end of the following
session of Congress.
.............
At that time, Trump would no longer be technically impeached.
I’m not going to the NY Slimes site but I note they failed to make mention of the elephant in the room President Trump stated:
DEFAULT
How could that be left from high in the story? Oh yeah, it’s the NY Slimes.
Pelousy has locked herself and the Demon/Shits in a rancid, toxic outhouse for two weeks and nobody can get in either to use it or clean it. If Our PDJT, brilliant as he is, had stayed up all night for the last month scheming how to defeat her and her accomplices, he’d have never figured out anything as brilliantly, hilariously effective as this. Looks like we were really blessed when the DemonShits won the House in 2018.
This will be the year the term “impeachment” loses its shock value.
I am counting the DAYS until I can vote in Fall of 2020. FOR Trump and AGAINST ANY DEM on my ticket!
Show of hands? :)
If RBG catches the flu, or even sneezes twice the Dems will claim the the impeachment started the moment the vote was taken.
What malarkey from the Times. This was politicized from the very beginning. WTH "risk" do they think they are talking about? They are neck-deep in politicization and everyone knows it.
She impeached Trump to the media and to the public (with the media’s help).
But she has not impeached Trump to the Senate.
If it weren’t such a sad charade, it’d be hilarious.
Hmm. And here I thought they and the Senate had to remain in six day a week sessions until they voted on managers through the Senate votes.
I know many here will disagree with me on this, but to a degree I felt the Clinton Impeachment somewhat made Impeachment lose its’ shock value, as well.
There was no chance, Clinton was going to be removed, it was basically done just so we could say, that Clinton was Impeached.....Well, so what?
It turned Clinton into a sympathetic figure, and also, I didn’t see much of an upside, if the ultimate result was getting stuck with President Gore, who may very well had won in 2000, if he had gone in as the incumbent.
And then, there is this (found this article on the new Bongino web site):
“Trump Isnt Impeached Until the House Tells the Senate” by Noah Feldman 12/19/19
Feldman’s thesis: “According to the Constitution, impeachment is a process, not a vote.”
Read all about it at: https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2019-12-19/trump-impeachment-delay-could-be-serious-problem-for-democrats
“Ms. Pelosi risks appearing to politicize the matter if she withholds the charges for negotiating leverage.”
right. because up until now, it wasn’t political at all ... not even the tiniest little bit ... the NYT’s artless propaganda is always good for a real belly laugh once in a while ...
“..Keep the waters muddy. Thats the Rats strategy....”
Or, more likely, they have a massive fraud campaign coming up for 2020 elections and expect to win back the Senate, THEN turn the impeachment sham loose because they have a slam dunk.
Put nothing past these assh*les.
“Ms. Pelosi risks appearing to politicize the matter if she withholds the charges for negotiating leverage.”
Too late...
“They will run on they impeached him.”
some Constitutional scholars believe an impeachment hasn’t actually occurred until/unless impeachment articles have actually been transmitted to the Senate ...
“Trump goes to SCOTUS...”
Nope
That could be the case. They basically want to turn the 2020 Election into a referendum on Impeachment.
I cannot read the New York Times.
Everything they write is designed to insult President Trump, no matter what the news is, and indirectly insults ME.
I don’t care to be insulted so I will not read the article.
I may, however, make a comment about the headline.
Going back up now to see if it interests me.
without taking the votes to appoint impeachment managers, which is required to start the process in the Senate. Where are those rules written? Theyre not in the Constitution.
