Representative Jackie Speier (D., Calif.) has called on Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell to recuse himself from the impending impeachment trial over his admission that he would not be an “impartial juror” and his claim that the trial was politically motivated.
“I’m not an impartial juror,” McConnell told CNN on Tuesday. “This is a political process. There is not anything judicial about it. Impeachment is a political decision.”
Speier responded by arguing that McConnell’s statement should disqualify him from participating in the impeachment trial.
“I think we’re going to have to call a mistrial before it even gets over to the Senate,” Speier said on CNN. “My understanding is that each of the senators is going to have to take an oath that they will independently evaluate the evidence for impeachment. . . . It sounds like there’s no interest in doing that whatsoever, and I would think Mitch McConnell should recuse himself.”
The House is expected to approve two articles of impeachment against President Trump this week, one for abuse of power and the other for obstruction of Congress.
McConnell is currently under pressure from both Democrats and Republicans to set parameters for an expected impeachment trial in the Senate that will please both sides. On Tuesday, McConnell slammed minority leader Chuck Schumer’s (D., N.Y.) proposal to determine which witnesses to call for testimony in the same document that will set rules for impeachment hearings.
“It is not the Senate’s job to leap into the breach and search desperately for ways to get to ‘guilty,’” McConnell said on the Senate floor. “The Senate is meant to act as judge and jury, to hear a trial, not to re-run the entire fact-finding investigation because angry partisans rushed sloppily through it.”

It’s absolutely hilarious that democrats start talking about ‘oaths’, and invoking statements from our founders, since they never cared about that before. They’ve consistently trampled our Constitution and now it somehow matters to them?
Jackie had her mind made up months ago, so, she needed to recuse herself from the impeachment votes and from the hearings. She did no such thing.
In fact, the whole democrat party side of congress had already made up their minds before the vote today, so, they were not impartial and needed to recuse themselves, but they did not.
Imagine selecting somebody as a juror for a court case, and knowing that he/she had already made up his/her mind before the court case was heard. Jackie is the juror with conviction already in her mind.

McConnell may get a lot of criticism here, but I can guarantee you that nothing will piss him off more than having a House member interfere in Senate procedures.

They’ve decided that there are no rules. We need to play with that in mind. I’m normally all for taking the high road, but you can only take getting slapped in the face for a minimal number of times. If that is the way they want to play, then we need to say “GAME ON” and when they go low, we go lower. They are playing for keeps.

Said on another thread— they have actually impeached themselves-— and with far more evidence, that is, their actions. The desperate nature of these moves does lend credence to the money paid off to them through the Ukraine kickback scheme, and one other item-— the still open investigation and Grand Jury on the AWAN IT case—which directly involves Wasserman Shulz the DNC, and cross checked with the new evidence gathered in Ukraine from Crowdstrike.

A good way to look at all this, is that the “case” started in the “intel” committee because the evidence was being “created” by the Chairman in the House (Nunes no longer having the same clearance in some “items” or in the process, the Rules having been decided by the likes of Alcee Hastings!!), and the effect the “intel deep state” has continued to have on the process and the “evidence”. Unprecedented. It should have been Judiciary— not shared with Intel.
As the criminal DOJ and Intel apparat continues to try and manipulate the process, and the media- they are managing the entire Gang of Eight of Intel. Mitch is in this Gang, and knows what they know, and more.
Gang: Senate Maj. leader/ Minority Leader Schumer, Senate Intel:Burr (Chair) Warner-ranking, and House Intel Schiff (chair), Nunes (ranking) and ..... the Speaker of the House Natzi/Minority Leader McCarthy. All of the Eight are privy to certain level clearance of National Security portfolio and thus manipulated by the Intel Community (and all the obamaumao embeds therein.) No one, however has the clearance level of the President and what he has granted Barr and Barr’s designates.
Nancy thinks she knows, and the Awan thing is freaking her, you can bet. She doesn’t know what... she doesn’t know. And there is not well hidden fear. Not a good way to make decisions, but predictable.
