Gov. Ralph Northam (D) announced Monday his “assault weapons” ban will mean AR-15 owners can either register their guns with the government or hand them over.
The Virginia Mercury reported Northam spokeswoman Alena Yarmosky used a statement to say, “The governor’s assault weapons ban will include a grandfather clause for individuals who already own assault weapons, with the requirement they register their weapons before the end of a designated grace period.”
Yarmosky made clear details on other gun controls will be made known before the start of the 2020 session in which Democrats take charge.

For years now, I have seen Freepers mock those in unfriendly gun states. "Ha ha! I live in XX state!"
Some of tried to tell them that it was coming to them as well. They didn't believe us.
Well, now they know.
Again, this is just an old man’s opinion but … It likely won’t happen in a very OVERT way as they know that likely public sentiment would not be favorable to that approach.
However, when they “deem” us as “non-compliant” in turning in or registering our weapons, they will likely try initially to do some door to door, but I think they will find that tactic “ineffective” for a variety of reasons.
Their Plan “B” however, could likely be characterized in the following way:
They “freeze” your bank account, disconnect your phone service, have your electrical and internet service turned off as they will instruct “public” utilities that they MUST comply - they will have your credit card issuers/bankers (and willingly so) cease processing any financial transactions for any of your cards/accounts. They’ve already shown they have willing accomplices with the banks and card issues to cease processing firearms transactions the like.
They will surveil us and attack us “electronically” (just ask Sharyl Attkisson and Donald Trump) - because we have been deemed by the state to be “criminals”, they will have what they need to “justify” their covert deeds. If they can’t “find” any dirt on us, as we see with Trump today, they are not opposed to making it up, because of course .. “the end justifies the means”.
They will hobble, and cripple us financially, socially and economically in every way and ultimately will arrest and imprison us because we can not “prove” where these “lost” weapons went and we will be classified as “domestic terrorists”.
And since we will have become “terrorists”, They will attempt to destroy us financially, socially and before challenges can make it through the courts they will ruin us economically.
And I mean no disrespect to anyone, but most so-called “patriots” will crumble under this form of asymmetric warfare.
The real patriots, will understand that we will have to fight them, not first or even second in the streets, but we will have to “weaponize information” just as they have done and then return “fire”.
We will have to conduct our own “asymmetric information warfare” specifically designed to”target” people who are responsible for these treasonous acts - we will have to attack the “information state” (deep state) where THEY LIVE and we will have to make it personal - when we dox them, exposure their past, when we bring their “dark” things to the LIGHT - then they will suffer a “personal” cost for their treason.
Later, we will have to “attack” using “manufactured information”, deep fakes, etc. to lay further salvos of “information warfare” at their doorpost. They will have to suffer the same losses: economic, social, cultural that we have suffered and suffer it on a PERSONAL level.
Abraham Lincoln once said: “When I hear a person advocating for slavery, I have the innate desire to have it tried on them PERSONALLY”. When the same methods and means of “attack” are levied against them, then and only then will they feel the full brunt of the “patriotic” response.
Only when (or If) we’ve lost that “war” will the bullets fly and if they do, it will be a testament that the war was already lost.
Just always know they are “cowards” and the most dangerous of them work with subtlety, in the shadows, in dark corners of power, where no one even knows their names. They likely won’t confront us as overtly as sending the police or army to our doors for if they resort to that, they are testifying that THEY have already lost the “war”.
I understand a lot of folks will disagree with the assessment - it’s just the two-cents of an old man anyway.
Plan B is their path to “success”.

You can repeat it silently, but a lot of us that have law abiding, police respecting, society enabling cooperation hard wired into us are going to need to realize a hard truth. You are on the enemies list of people that do not have anywhere near the regard for proper behavior than you do.
A lot of us are probably do things we find disagreeable or downright dangerous before all this over.
Maybe he’ll send his Klan buddies into black neighborhoods to confiscate their guns.
The wave of implementation, if there ever is one, will move from the East side of the state to the West and South. I lived for several years in Danville, VA, there on the NC border; and I can't see many down there complying with this.

I don’t believe those folks will turn over their weapons. And there’s no way the state will try rounding them up.
But woe unto the owner that has a different, legal encounter with LEO.
And just in case we have real dullards on this site: If a cop ever asks you if they can come into your home/property or look around in your car...never, ever say yes.

Good idea but likely a temporary stopgap at best. The real problem in America is that the people who live in it are changing. They are abandoning, one after another, the values and virtues that made it great. The people of Virginia voted for this. Millions of people around the country are voting for similar things. The balance in America has tipped-toward the left.
That should be three words; middle is me, the last word begins with ‘a’ and ends with ‘hole’.
Thankfully matches are cheap.
I would suggest that the state will do nothing actively, but if you are caught in the open with what is now an illegal firearm, DA's will try to make you an example. So as a gun owner of a BAD gun, you are now faced with a choice: Keep the gun in your safe or favorite hiding place and never bring it out, or risk being that case that may eventually make it to the USSC and get this unconstitutional law thrown out.
