The Florida Senate on Wednesday voted to permanently oust suspended Broward Sheriff Scott Israel over his officers' response to the mass shooting that killed 17 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018.
The GOP-controlled state Senate voted 25-15 in favor of Israel’s permanent removal.
“I hope the outcome provides some measure of relief to the Parkland families that have been doggedly pursuing accountability,” Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, said in a statement after the vote.

This. Sheriffs are elected for a reason i.e. so they are independent. I applaud Sheriffs that flaunt anti-constitutional gun control measures. Should they be removed? Bad precedent.

I live in Broward county part time and know these “people”. Easily the most vile and disgusting bunch in the US.
I will add this footnote...it’s probably 3rd or 4th hand information, but someone made the comment (they lived in Broward in this period when the lux-car thing came up) that the car wasn’t practically new, and that it was heavily suggested in the social media that it was a damaged lux-vehicle that had some body work done. The loan-out occurred after the body work.
Maybe the intention was to impress Dubai and Qatar on the use of the lux-vehicle brands for law enforcement (if they do it in Broward angle).
Asset forfeiture vehicles; cars, boats and aircraft are used by the BSO, Broward Sheriff’s Organization, the Sheriff drives a drug dealer’s Lambo.
BSO, also known as the Bull Shit Organization has over the last 40 years absorbed nearly all the smaller police forces in Broward County.
The smaller towns contract with BSO to get out from under the health and pension costs of payng for their own forces.
BSO now commands the bulk of the county budget.
They have been rife with corruption for years as well as “inapproprite” behavior like providing off duty deputies in county vehicles as “security” for various well heeled low lifes.
BSO if firmly under the control of the Democrat machine that runs Broward County.

The Florida Sheriff’s Association backed his removal.
The Governor (DeSantis) removed him from office but a “Special Master” was appointed and he determined that although Israel had issues he was recommending reinstatement.
Florida law allows the Senate to determine Israel’s fate either way regardless of what the “Special Master” resolved which is what they just did.

The law was on Israel’s side. He was removed for political reasons. (I find him very unlikable. He’s a political skunk, himself.)
If it weren’t for the media and the Parkland parents, he never would have been removed. Interestingly, every Broward senator voted for his reinstatement. That’s because their votes were actually to embarrass DeSantis, rather than for Israel.
The senators have no trouble getting reelected in spite of their votes for Israel, and in spite of the anger of the Parkland parents. Broward is a corrupt Democrat county and has a corrupt Democrat newspaper.
The sheriff who replaced Israel and will be running against him in the 2020 Democrat primary was a registered Republican. He switched to Democrat because there is no way he could win as a Republican, even though he is black.
He says he’s running again in 2020......................this incompetent whacko needs to be banned for life from ever serving in a LEO capacity..............

We had a local county Superintendent of Education removed from office by the governor Desantis and she essentially did the same thing, suing the governor and school board for firing her stupid ass...................

My bad, the Lambo wasn’t one of the asset forfeiture cars.
BSO for a time had a practice of allowing deputies to drive hot cars they had seized and BSO had gained ownership of through asset forfeiture, the cars wore BSO livery.

I disagree, the law is clearly written giving the Florida Senate ultimate authority by majority vote final determination on the subject.

I lived in Broward County ‘72-’19, until last year.
BSO did have a practice of letting deputies drive seized vehicles painted and BSO livery.
A lot of BSO deputies are retired LEO from the Northeast earning another pension.
They brought many corrupt practices with them, adding an extra layer of sometimes more sophisticated practices to the good old boy corruption native the region.
Broward is also an “open city” for the Mob, making it a desired retirement area for Wise Guys who continue to run scams in the Sunshine State.

If I had my way these evil people would be tried and sentenced to prison or put to death. The only downside to this story is that it took the negligent deaths of 17 high school kids before this democrat appointee was removed from office.
I agree with your sentiment, but sheriff is an elected office, not appointed.
