On Sunday’s broadcast of CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said it was not appropriate for President Donald Trump to ask China to investigate 2020 presidential candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden regarding his business ties.
Partial transcript as follows:
MARGARET BRENNAN: So China’s a- a surveillance state. Is it appropriate for President Trump to be saying–
CRUZ: Yeah.
BRENNAN: –China should look into the Biden family? Is that appropriate?
CRUZ: I- look, of course not. Elections in the U.S. should be decided by- by Americans and it’s not the business of- of foreign countries, any foreign countries, to be interfering in our elections.
BRENNAN: Even Ukraine? I mean when you’re talking about some of this, I mean do you think that- say the president’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, who’s been talking about China, who’s been talking about Ukraine. Do you want to hear him testify about this sort of shadow foreign policy?
CRUZ: Listen, foreign countries should stay out of American elections. That’s true for Russia. That’s true for Ukraine. That’s true for China. That’s true for all of them. It should be the American people deciding elections. I- I don’t know what Rudy’s been saying. I- I do know though that we should decide our elections. It should be the American people making those decisions.
BRENNAN: And you do want him to testify before your committee?
CRUZ: I think it’d make a lot of sense for Rudy to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee. That’s- that’s ultimately a question for the committee chairman, Lindsey Graham. But- but I’d like to see Rudy testify. Yes.

Trump plays these people so well, they never even realize they’ve been trolled.
Cruz let them have the premise of their argument and put himself on the wrong side. The root problem with saying that Trump can’t investigate Biden or have other countries investigate him is that implies that running for office makes one immune to investigation.
If a president can contact a foreign government and call for an investigation of someone he has evidence of doing shady dealings then should that person be able to announce their intention of running for office in the opposition party and then be immune from investigation? I would hope that people would generally say no. And in fact those running for office should be under more scrutiny not less. To give politicians immunity is anti-democratic and only encourages corruption.

There is no obstruction of justice. There is implementation of justice.
Sorry Ted. The President is responsible for foreign policy. If there’s a need to have another government investigate suspected criminal activity, the President is the only one with legal authority to do so.

Just as a reminder, Although I am a conservative from Texas, I was Pro-Trump and dropped Cruz very early, because I detected “bush syndrome”. That is, another form of RINO in his actions. Mostly Cruz is just for Cruz.
