Trump’s making a big mistake in betraying the Kurds

Turkish jets struck a Kurdish base near the Iraq-Syria border late Monday night, the first grim fruits of President Trump’s decision to order US forces out of the way — a decision we fear Trump will come to regret.

We’ll grant that the president is delivering on a campaign promise here: Like most Americans, he doesn’t want this nation serving as the world’s policeman; other countries should share more of the burden when it comes to both troops and money.

Or, as he tweeted Monday, “it is time for us to get out of these ridiculous Endless Wars.”

He has a point, big-picture — but he’s making a big mistake here. Leaving Syria puts multiple US interests at risk. He’s not putting an end to “endless wars,” he’s planting the seeds for future ones.

We have elections here, so in the absence of a formal treaty that has been ratified by the Senate, agreements are always subject to change.

Any foreign interest would do well to consider any agreement with the U.S. government as something that will last no more than 48 hours.

You know who really learned that the hard way?

Gaddafi

Here’s a guy that saw Saddam go down, figured he was next, so he VOLUNTARILY gave up his WMD program hoping to avoid the same fate. We airlifted nuclear materials out of the country.

Obama takes the Presidency, and he, Hillary, and the Euros figure they can loot Libya, so Gaddafi gets taken down and murdered despite having done that.

And we wonder why Kim is difficult to negotiate with.

Without the US, the whole lot of them would be dead a decade ago. Now Isis is gone. It’s up to the region to keep them gone. Back to the old status quo of never-ending eye-for-an-eye stone age tribal warfare for everybody. And anybody in congress whose heart bleeds over Trump wanting an end to US troop deaths, needs to suit up and go take their place.

OR...congress could finally pass an act authorizing war and we can have a draft instead of depleting our best and finest from flyover country.

Once again, it’s put up or shut up, Congress. The world is ending in 11-3/5 years anyway, right?

If all these remnants of the prehistoric ages want to do is breed more sons to be slaughtered in their turf wars, let them slip into extinction. President Trump knows their routine and we will not be a part of their insanity.

For history minded fellow Freepers, the history of this area was seriously disrupted by the Sykes-Picot Treaty between France and Great Britain after WWI. The carving up of the Ottoman Empire created Jordan, Iraq, Syria and parts of Iran. Minimal attention was paid to historical boundaries, religious differences, tribal politics. As a result, the area has been in turmoil ever since and will probably never know an enduring peace.
We never should have gone in there and I celebrate that the President has the fortitude to get us out. If Russia wants to go in fine, it will be Afghanistan all over again for them.

Trump could find that abandoning one’s allies works both ways.

A few days ago some US personnel were shot in the back by Afghanistan allies...this has been going on for years!
They will never be our allies....like the Russians and the Turks our eternal enemies.

When there are no good actors in the region, what’s the alternative.

Including the EU and NATO.

The US has been bleeding for other countries, for no good reason, for 75 years.

And we have gotten what, for all the blood and treasure?

Repeated kicks in the nads.

Erdie has been put on notice by Trump.

Membership in NATO does NOT confer a get-out-of-jail-free card for genocide.

Trump hasn’t abandoned the Kurds.

The Kurds and the US have been stabbed in the back by NATO and the EU.

What no one wants to mention is GW Bush, Obama, and Hillary destabilized the region. That opened the door for Obama to have the US go into Syria and use a spurious Bush mandate to enter in to and un-declared war there. There were no good exit strategies at that point. Trump had a Hobson’s choice on his hands and made a tough decision no one else was willing to make. History will show it to be the right decision IMHO.

And yet Lindsay Jag-Off sees another ten or twenty years as the solution.

Parachute him and Cruz and Kristol and all the other homefront heroes in to give us a lesson on how it all works.

Point well taken. My point is in that part of the world we have no friends...never will. If we have to go to war then go all out....not this hearts and minds crap.

If the WAPO staff is so worried about the destabilization the withdrawal of 25 troops will cause, let them volunteer to go over and fight alongside the Kurds as mercenaries. No one is stopping them.

Phasing out- yes. Abandoning the Kurds? Bad. Very bad. Even worse yo turn them Over yo the tender mercies of the Turkish madman Erdogan. He’s very dangerous and nuts. He will try yo murder as many Kurds as he can.

I see you use code, y=t {sometimes}.

Here is some code. I don't give a fat rat's ass if the turks kill all of the kurds.

Mooselimb terrorists killing other mooselimb terrorists, it's a start.

The only way to make islam a religion of peace, is to rid the world of islam.

READ and STUDY that piece of war propaganda called the koran and then tell us how islam is the religion of peace.

Great statement by Trump. So clear that even a caveman can understand it.
