President Donald Trump's staunchest allies voiced outrage Monday after he suddenly declared that U.S. troops would allow Turkey to attack Syrian Kurds who have fought as U.S. allies for years to tamp down the Islamic State.
The president later threatened to destroy the economy of Turkey, a NATO member, if it goes too far against the Kurds. But that did little to mollify concerns overseas or in Congress after Trump announced that the U.S. would withdraw troops and get them out of the way of Turkish forces.
Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas said it would be "disgraceful if we sat idly by while Turkey slaughters the Kurds, as public reports suggest that Turkish leader Erdogan explicitly told President Trump he intends to do. Kurds risked their lives for many years to fight alongside us."

How can you tell the friend or foe without a program?
I like the Kurds too. The only Muslims I have any respect for.
That said, it’s not our fight. If we were ever going to stand up for them, and with them, it should have been done early on in the the war in Iraq.
“honestly feel sorry for them. BUT, as some point these people have got to stand on their own, because we cant continue to pay for their protection with US taxpayer dollars forever.
Enough is enough, bring all the troops home.”
It begins with Israel. Our costly support of that nation ties us down in the region. If we were to cut ties completely with that nation, we’d have no reason to station troops and spend money in the Middle East at all
Well, yeah...So am I...I was talking about the people who, when President Trump does something, they jump and say “Oh no!!!!”
I, personally, wait and see how things turn out and it usually turns out that he knew exactly what he was doing and why he did it...
Trump is more clever than most all “professional politicians”...
Theyve known about his for weeks but now they choose to complain?
Ted Cruz! The man who demand we stand up to Turkey....and was almost Betoed by one! Him and the rest of the do nutin republiecants can’t be voted out fast enough for my liking!
“What’s “impolite and rude” is the perpetual march of dead service members and endlessly robbing trillions from America’s future... for MIDEAST TRIBES. “
Does that also include the tribes of Israel?
You give this site a bad rep. Take a vacation.
Ted Snooze...
You can set your clock by him.
This guy didn’t get it in 2015, 16. He doesn’t fully grasp it today.
If Trump does something Ted thinks will make him look good by praising it as if he did it, he’ll chime in big-time.
If not, he’ll clam up.
If he thinks he can make hay off trashing Trump policy, he’ll be just as eager to sound off.
This guy, Glen Beck, and Mark Levin are worthless pieces of “S”.
They are fair weather friends.
“Hey, I’m the smartest guy around, but I still couldn’t see Hillary Clinton was worse than Trump, until I thought about it for months.” Assholes!
Go Ted. Go quickly Go far (away)!
And of all of those choices, what do we expect to happen at our bases in Turkey, and how does it work with NATO when we attack a fellow NATO member?
Does anybody really expect that we would get engaged in a shooting war with Turkey?
I haven't seen one logical explanation for what we should do other than get out of the way, and threaten Turkey with non-violent sanctions.
If we stayed in position, even with a nominal force, Turkey couldn’t attack the Kurds because they’d also be attacking a fellow NATO ally. Us.
The trouble in northern Syria is a deepstate ploy to distract from certain facts that are soon to be revealed.
Yup, Erdogan is a deep state goon.
Trump is not taking the bait and there will be incredible wailing from deepstate operators that he is acting weak... He’s not weak, he’s smart.
See, now Ted has a pretext for voting for impeachment.
Your idea isn't really realistic is it? Because if one guy wouldn't be enough then how many is enough? In reality Turkey is planning on attacking, and apparently already are. Our president was smart enough to move the US forces out of the area to avoid having them get caught up in the action.
Again, my question is simple -- what do we do even if we have troops in the area? Should US troops near the Kurds fire anti-aircraft missiles at any Turkish aircraft that are bombing Kurd held areas?
Their looking for something else to cry impeachment with, and He is not giving it to them. Democrats been told we need something more. they are really working at it.
I disagree it’s ‘if only for Israel’.
Most of the nations in the area are “cooperation” allies directly with us (example Pakistan and Iraq), or vis-à-vis other Nato members’ cooperation agreements.
Turkey is a NATO ally, part of the G-20, and hosts some of our big go boom toys for us. Not to mention a strategic flightline. Turkey had already put plans in motion to go after the PKK “kurds” who have waged an insurgency against Turkey for 50 years or more, well before Trump made his announcement.
Trump is bringing the last 100 or so troops out of a danger zone and at the same time is putting full responsibility for security in the region squarely into the hands of Turkey. Just as he is putting responsibility for the Isis captives back into the hands of the countries from whence they came instead of a USA problem.
There is no ISIS left now; only the centuries-old tribal wars remain. That is, we’ve successfully returned the situation over there to old status quo. And they can have it. As for our part, we helped the kurds, PKK and non-PKK, stay alive for over a decade, including airdropping food and medicine to them when they were stuck on a mountaintop with nowhere to go. Now they have somewhere to go. IF they want to turn around and fight Turkey, that’s their business.
IF we have to come in and break things again, we can and will, but 100 dog-tired and war weary troops aren’t going to change hearts and minds that don’t understand or want change, and our guys are certainly not going to join an insurgency against Turkey. And none of this has jack to do with Israel.
