Trump: US locked and loaded for response to attack on Saudis

A weekend drone attack on Saudi Arabia that cut into global energy supplies and halved the kingdom’s oil production threatened Sunday to fuel a regional crisis, as the U.S. released new evidence to back up its allegation that Iran was responsible for the assault amid heightened tensions over Tehran’s collapsing nuclear deal.

President Donald Trump said the U.S. had reason to believe it knew who was behind the attack — his secretary of state had blamed Iran the previous day — and assured his Twitter followers that “we are ... locked and loaded” depending on verification and were waiting to hear from the Saudis as to who they believe was behind the attack and “under what terms we would proceed!”

Not just no, but hell no. Let them deal with their own problems.

Do not the Saudis have their own loads to lock?

Iran has millions of missiles/rockets...Saudi has none...

I think your argument needs a little more thought. You are correct on several points in this thread but the reasoning has to come back to vital national interest, not price of oil alone, because no price is worth a US solders life.

If you look back through this thread on my posts to AC or others, you will see I am not in disagreement with you. But your best arguments are rooted in the deaths of americans at the hands of Iranians and their continued spread of terrorism throughout the region. That coupled with the escalation of attacks on US drones, threats to US aircraft, shipping attacks, and now this are the basis for a good case to strike. The saudis are justified in doing anything in response today. I think the Iranians have provided the justification for the US or an alliance strike through the accumulated history of bad acting, but since our president did say he was going to avoid more of these things, he probably needs to present a very good case to the American people soon if he is going to have their support. The Dems are dying for him to make the leap into Iran to use against him as they have nothing else.

I agree about the Sauds. The comment I was replying to implied the U.S. should protect oil at all costs. But why aren’t all the other nations saying they want to protect oil too? Why should the U.S. get dragged into war?

Let the Sauds start getting other nations to help them besides the U.S. We could supply intelligence. But beyond that, we don’t need another war.

Cedar, do any one of those little tiny nation states have the capability to do so?
The USA is the worlds lone Super Power. No other nation has even remotely anything close to our capability. I do not condone W’s fruitless attempts at Nation Building in our image. That was a major mistake.
However, the USA does have a role to play in our world whether you like it or not. And, the stability of the worldwide flow of trade is a critical role only the USA is capable of fulfilling.
There is no other country or countries collectively even remotely capable of doing so.
Without our countries involvement in the security of free transport of goods worldwide the prices of goods and commodities would sky rocket out of control.
Especially, the price of fuel. The most critical of all worldwide commodities. Vital to everyone on earth.
There are certain, limited areas where we must step in. Oil is one of them.
Unless you don’t mind a worldwide recession and a return to primitive times.
While I understand peoples desire to not get involved in the affairs of others under any circumstances. And, in many cases I agree. There are some things that require our involvement if we don’t wish for the world to suffer including you and me.

and then with Hungary and Poland should they leave the European Union.

I'm sorry, what? Hungary and Poland are the two biggest fanboy nations of the EU.

I understand we are the super power. Other nations have not the capabilities we have.

But what if through (globalist?) manipulation we are forced into a war that Americans don’t want? Would President Trump lose quite a bit of support? Even lose the election?

Can you imagine the fast decline of our “super power” status if a weak, liberal Democrat was elected in 2020 and 2024? They are determined to not only weaken individual U.S. citizens by taking away the 2nd amendment but also weakening the U.S. military as Obama did for eight years.

It is dangerous ground, war is. No one, no one wants to see more U.S. sons and daughters involved in war to help out Saudi Arabia. Let Saudi Arabia or even Israel if they would, or someone else counter this attack. We can send them great intelligence. But don’t have President Trump involved in a war that might cost him the election. As someone else said, that’s the Democrats only hope to win.

There is too much at stake for us, for our country. China would love for President Trump to lose. The European Union would love for President Trump to lose. Iran would love for him to lose. The Democrats would love it and then go about destroying what remains of our nation’s strengths.

Yup

Iran or one of its terror proxies just crossed a red line

A totally unprovoked missile attack is a huge mistake because, if the status quo continues, Iran will soon have nuclear weapons to put on their cruise missiles.

It’s pretty ominous because the original report was a drone attack but now that are using the term missile attack

This means one thing - a cruise missile attack.

Iran has two cruise missiles in its inventory.

The first is a reverse engineered knock iff of Russia’s Cold War nuclear tiled cruise missiles. Iran received 5 of these missiles, complete with inert but completely authentic Russian nuclear warheads used for technician training purposes.

The second cruise missile Iran has in production is a nuclear capable stealth cruise missile derived from the Lockheed RQ 170 stealth drone Obama gave the Iranians

These cruise missiles can be launched on one way missions to the Continental US from off a cargo ship or oil tanker

Cedar, No US price is worth a US soldiers life is a talking point too many never been there never done that use. Far far too often. Beginning with the Vietnam War.
I will yell you this, from my experience, with 26 years in the military this is complete and total BS.
What our men demand is complete and total support of their mission. What we demand is NO Political Correctness in the Pursuit of Complete and Total Victory.
What WE demand is if you send us to WAR you allow us to WIN the Fing War and not micromanage us as we conduct the war!
You send us to Kill the enemy. Allow us to Kill the enemy and not persecute us for not killing them in a Politically Correct manner. I/we are so Fing tired of civilians telling us how to conduct and win a war from their Fing couches and cushy offices.
If you turn us loose wars would end quickly and efficiently. And, with far far less casualties and with far fewer maimed US soldiers. Too many of our dead and maimed are a direct result of people and politicians who think they know better how to conduct war than the warriors.

How about sending 30-40 cruise missiles on a friendly trip to Kharg Island?

Provide them with all the bombs and bullets they need. Assist in radar support if needed. But no boots on the ground and no US planes over hostile territory.

I totally agree with what you said! My point being...who will allow the military to win—President Trump or the next weak Democrat?

We need President Trump to win again in 2020! Why risk his election with involvement in war? If the U.S. is attacked, yes, we attack back, strongly. But we are talking about Saudi Arabia. Don’t weaken President Trump by getting him involved in Saudi Arabia’s issues.

My dad was a soldier in the signal corps in WWII. He was overseas for 3 years. They didn’t come home till the war was over. They fought to win. President Trump supports the military with the same mindset. But if he loses in 2020, who will be there to give the military support? Who will let them be sent to win? It would be Obama-version all over again.

Iran was the main source of terrorism all along and is the planned last stop in the War on Terror. Iran is effectively isolated now. That’s why we’re seeing so much chatter from Iran and some of its commie nation cheerleaders against the inevitable actions to come.

If not stopped, Iran will continue the attacks until oil and fuel prices are skyrocketing.

Cedar, we are not just talking about Saudi Arabia, we are talking about a worldwide vital commodity. This commodity affects every single country, every company and every household on earth.
Think about the implications of that. Please. There has to be some global stability to this commodity.
This is a fact of life. There is no argument about this fact.
So, who has the power and ability to ensure the free flow of this worldwide commodity? There is only us. No one else. Just us.
And, if we abrogate our responsibility what happens to our world. Total chaos. Now there are some who couldn’t care less. I understand this. I am just not one of them.
