Climate protesters tell carmakers 'the party is over' (only 11.37 years left)

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Thousands of protesters marched in front of Frankfurt's IAA car show on Saturday to demand a swift end to combustion engines and a shift to environmentally friendly vehicles as Chancellor Angela Merkel's government prepares to unveil climate protection measures.

Police in Frankfurt said some 15,000, including many cyclists, took part in the march. Organizers put the number at 25,000 and said that around 18,000 cyclists had descended on the city.

Protesters took aim at SUVs, seen by environmentalists as a highly polluting status symbol that has no place in cities.

"STOP SUV," "SUV not cool," and "We can't replace our lungs" read some of the signs held by protesters.

"Enough to policies that prioritize cars in our cities," said Ernst-Christoph Stolper, deputy head of Friends of the Earth Germany. "Pedestrians and cyclists need to conquer the urban spaces that belong to us."

Frankfurt should hold it's car show in February. Kinda chilly for a bunch of cyclists.

I bought my wife a 2018 Toyota Avalon, and I let her know I fully expect that to be her car for the next 25 years, as it replaced our 1994 Buick Roadmaster station wagon that wouldn’t pass Phoenix emissions.

The leaders probably flew in on their private jets and the rest probably drove their Hummers.

I remember back in the 1970s when the same bunch of assclown “scientists” were warning about “The Coming Ice Age”, and they said we had like 20 years or so.

F*** ‘em all - Always, all ways, and all the time.

Thank you for mentioning that. Climate protestors should be hibernating in February.

There is no such thing as an “environmentally friendly vehicle”. The environment is totally quiet on vehicles.

The smelting of the steel that goes into the construction of the vehicle, no matter HOW it is powered, the refining of the various elements that go to make up the components of this engineering marvel known as an “automobile”, and the sheer volume of the machining and forging of the parts, all consume as much or more total number of BTUs as that vehicle shall ever consume while proceeding down the highway.

BTUs translate directly into “energy consumption” and result in much carbon production and excess heat generation while that energy is being released to create the very wealth that has lifted the entire human population out of the caves and trees and tribal societies from whence they sprang. The thing is, earth has proven over and over again that the “excess” carbon production and the “excess” heat are both taken in stride by the natural homeostatic forces that act in our biosphere, and at every level from the depths of the ocean to the top of our stratosphere.

The “excess” carbon, in the form of carbon dioxide, is plant food, and as such, expands and enriches the opportunities for more rapid plant growth. The “excess” heat is radiated off every night by the actions of the earth turning away from the “hot” side, exposed to the sun, and allowing the heat to be re-radiated from the “cold” side, away from the intense rays of the sun. And along with this heat energy, any little bit of “excess” heat produced by the efforts of mankind are radiated away as well.

How can people be so stupid.

Of course climate is changing....always has and always will. It's not like the earth is in a LITTLE bubble. The universe is huge.

And never in all this have I heard the sun mentioned once.

Shhhhh....don't tell anyone but that sun melts ice....voila....could that be part of climate change??

Or is it just farts and breathing that cause it.

Germany should just stop making cars and lorries.

They will, when all the Chinese imports roll in. Using western technology freely given them. Will the climate protesters go to China and stop China from producing ICE vehicles?

But it was 25 years old. You could have registered it collectible or whatever the designation is (those red and gold plates), and you wouldn’t have even needed to do emissions.

There is that saying ‘as above, so below’ I hope not. If the next world is like this.. I don’t even want to think of it. Could you imagine.. burkas and bike helmets for eternity.
