New York is running out of fuel and power — just as Cuomo planned
NY Post ^ | 8/31/2019 | Post Editorial Board

Gov. Andrew Cuomo doubled down last week on his blame-the-messenger approach to New York’s growing shortage of natural-gas supplies by ordering the Department of Public Service to “broaden its investigation” of National Grid and threatening to “find another franchisee.”

Anything, rather than admit that his own policies are at fault.

The utility has stopped taking new gas customers in parts of Long Island, Brooklyn and Queens where it can’t handle the new demand — because Team Cuomo vetoed the proposed Williams pipeline to bring in supplies from New Jersey. (Jersey is also blocking the pipeline, since Gov. Phil Murphy is appeasing the same green extremists.)

National Grid gave months of warning that it would need to impose the moratorium if fresh supplies weren’t ensured.

Con Ed did the same in advance of its recent new-biz moratorium in most of Westchester, which was also prompted in good part by the nixing of new pipelines.

This is the point of the yearslong green war on pipelines: You can’t burn gas or oil you can’t get.

But would-be consumers are, of course, furious. Which leaves Cuomo and like-minded pols blaming the utilities. Hence the gov’s “broadened investigation” — which is supposed to find, what? That National Grid doesn’t want more customers?

I know you’re mostly joking but it would screw up broadcast tv, especially during rain. Worse if the blades had cf leading edges.

Marxism cannot exist without scarcity of basic necessities. The left is trying to create scarcity.

When there’s scarcity, people get upset...and when the government controls the supplies, they fall in line because otherwise you don’t get heat (or, in the case of Stalin, eat).

Nice. I’ve lived in Texas and Colorado. Both are great if you avoid the big cities. That’s probably true of many states.

Why do they need Natural Gas in the first place? Not for HEAT, that’s for sure, and if by some miracle the GUARANTEED Global Warming they constantly preech about doesn’t materialize, they can just put 200lb blocks of Solid CO2 in their homes and as it dissipates and the CO2 increases, it should make the whole house nice and Toasty.

Np. I had to move around a bit (military). Moving to a new area can always be daunting. It's hard enough even when you know you'll have camaraderie waiting for you. I don't envy your position - if you're not well traveled and may not have an extensive support network at a new place.

However, you may be able to take it a bit slow. If you own now and can sell - it may be worth selling and moving to PA and renting. (If you're comfortable with PA). Yes, you're lining someone else's pocket when you rent. But, consider it as a research expense and you don't have to worry about direct impacts to a drop in the real estate market.

Once you get somewhere outside of your current circumstances - maybe consider taking short "vacations" to new areas that have work in your field. Consider staying at AirBnBs or Home Aways (generally houses someone else owns) that should give you a feel for the area/neighborhoods. You can experience something new and maybe get a feel for - is this "home?"

I had previously been stationed in this area of VA for several years. A lot had changed in the 3-4 years I was gone (and I suffered through the market collapse). When I came back I/we rented for almost three before my wife and I bought a place - just to be "sure."

I found two things to be either true, and/or sound advice:

#1 Easier to find a job when you have one

#2 Renting in an area before committing to buy can ease some anxiety and assist your decision making

-- The wife and I have been considering eventually moving to Florida. We know nothing about Florida other than the vacations we took. It just seems like a nice place we could settle. If/when we decide we're serious about considering Florida - we already agreed on the AirBnB route before determining if the state/areas are for us -> then rent -> then maybe buy. If it doesn't seem for us, we won't go through with it, and can feel out somewhere else before we're stuck.

Your mileage may vary.

Ah, I remember the phrase, “Let the b*st*rds freeze to death in the dark” way back in the 70s during our first gas crisis (when we had not realized that libs were ‘tards and we could out produce the Muzzies).

True then.
True now.

And thanks to social media, we can watch and party.

I’m surprised you have stayed this long dp.

My advice is sell while you still can, take the money and run.
Preferably to one of the states away from the eastern seaboard.
I hear that Oklahoma is a pretty decent state to live.

PA may not even be the best choice.....I have family that would leave if they could.
I agree. PA is filling up with New Yorkers heading south, and bringing their liberal ways with them.

"Will try one last major effort to vote them out.
Then the “for sale” sign goes up"

I think both Uniontown & Windber have a local Satriale's... So PA would be a comfortable choice... {:-)

These idiots put about a 1000 windmills in upstate NY. They are god awful ugly and many don’t work. It’s disgusting and it’s not even close to replacing what the left wants to eliminate. Eventually, the left will have to be physically destroyed. Big Energy is not something to f*ck with even if they go along with the bullsh*t from the left.

They better not come to Texas for anything here; the governor and the people here will gladly give them all the finger and tell them to get lost.
