So now the government can remove ‘scary’ but benign personal objects from your luggage just because an agent mistakenly believes that the object may cause some sort of harm? And they can confiscate you properly without review or due process? Nice.

This is why plastic straws are being banned. They are in effect rocket launchers for spit wads. Very dangerous!

A discharge round. No different that a cartridge casing, whick might also cause an uproar.

I have a .59 BMG case with a projectile stuffed in on my desk. I found in the dirt oat Ft Irwin, can imagine the uproar seeing that on their X-rays. The firing pin indent on the primer would not appease them.

Probably an empty (expended and discarded)

LAW one-shot missile launcher.

About as dangerous as an equal length of plastic pipe...

Tell that to vets from the VN war.

Quite a few were killed from the booby traps set by them by the VC.

It’s a spent tube.

A novelty, at most. Completely harmless.

Empty. It’s a memento.

A few months ago, something be turned one of these empty tubes in at a Baltimore gun ‘buyback’ and got $500

Btw, an enterprising FReeper sold a broken pistol and an old shotgun for $300 to the same ‘buyback’ crew.

I enjoyed all the ammo I bought with the money.

Damn! I’d heard those rats in Baltimore were bad, but this is pretty convincing that they’re terrible!

If the boys dropped them after they fired them, the VC would pick them up and a grenade would fit quite nice in them.

They’d pull the pins on the grenade’s’ and slide them up in the tube and hook up a trap door with a trip wire. Hang it in a bush or tree with the trip wire cross the path. Once the trap door was tripped, the grenades would spill out and the spoons would fall free and the grenades would go off.

Happened. Believe me. You smashed those GD things to smithereens after you fired them.

I suppose quite a few VC died from making that booby trap. But, they didnt care as long as they got more of us.

Yeah but TSA freaked out. They once took a plastic sword from a six yo kid on Orlando just back from Dizzyland. Thing was maybe a foot long. Plastic.

Hand-carried prototype, being carried to a trade show?

It *may* not even have been functional ...

Ah, but that is carry in. Simulated weapons are a no-no in the cabin.

They are fine, however, in checked bags.

As was this plastic tube.

The 4th Amendment collapsed with the Trade Towers.

Ah! I see...

They could have done the same with bamboo with the right ID -- and it wouldn't have looked as out of place.

But, I agree: you troops were smart to deprive them of that specific parts supply!
