At least one gunman opened fire Sunday at Northern California’s Gilroy Garlic Festival, killing at least three and injuring 15, before being fatally shot by police stationed nearby who responded in less than a minute after the initial shot was fired, a police official said.
The shooting rampage began at 5:41 p.m. on the north side of the festival, Chief of Police Scot Smithee said at a press conference late Sunday.
Smithee said the gunman gained access to the festival by cutting through a fence near a creek area. He said some witnesses reported a second suspect, but police could not immediately confirm those reports.
A manhunt was underway to find a possible second suspect. It was not immediately clear if there were two shooters.
NBC Bay Area reported that a 6-year-old boy, Steven Romero, was among the victims.
"He had his whole life to live," Alberto Romero, the boy's father, said. "He was only six."

Unfortunately the best place to be safe anymore is away from crowds. The last place I would think this might happen is a garlic festival in Gilroy. I was living in the valley when the Chowchilla kidnapping happened. Crazy things happen in Cali. This and the Brooklin shooting yesterday are why I avoid crowds (that and being anti-social in general).

As horrible as this is, it could have been even worse if they were 5 or 10 minutes away.

If it was a Trump supporter or someone they could easily pass off as one then his name would be all over the news. The fact that it isn’t suggests to me that they are currently scrubbing his social media history. We’ll know if they come out with “and we’ll never know what his motives were.” That it was muzztard or antifa.

Armed police were nearby and responded in less than a minute. 15 shot, 3 dead is bad, but it could have been a lot worse. Bravo to the officers who didn’t hesitate or “wait outside” but ran to the gunfire. What the MSM will entirely gloss over here and forget is the lesson: armed good-guys on site end these incidents with a minimal loss of life. How much worse would it have been if LEOs were 5 or 10 or even 20 minutes away? How much better if there was an armed civilian standing a few yards away when the shooter drew his weapon?
It is curious that the news reports witnesses description and color of the thugs pants and shirt and kerchief, but not that it was a white privileged dude.

My bet is that the perp is someone who has been on the radar for a while, and nobody did anything about him, not his family, not authorities.
If it follows the Giffords shooting, the shooter would be a mentally-troubled son of a prominent Democrat, who authorities let skate on the background check because of family connections.
Doesn’t have be anyone prominent. Just people who could’ve availed themselves of CA’s mental health laws to get the perp some help or locked up if necessary.
If local authorities had this guy on their radar dropped the ball, I can see why they’re taking a while to ID.
