I don’t believe the image is “fake,” but I do believe it got there accidentally by a natural process. The vituperation I sometimes get when I explain my reasoning is something to behold, and it comes from both sides of the debate. The bottom line is that no one interested in the Shroud is prepared to approach it with the objectivity it requires.
Anybody keeping up with the latest science on this?
The dating. etc.
Any informed opinions of its authenticity?
I’m simply curious, as humans are.
Latest I heard is that there was repairs to an area, and this area was where the carbon dating came from. That’s all.

We can’t even trust historical planetary temperatures because NASA altered them to support Climate Change models. Why would anyone listen to any so-called “scientist”?
Not into this shroud thingy, did it have blood on it? Type? DNA? To have a featured face on it, it would have to have been pressed down flush against the face and held there. ????
Then Jesus pronounced a blessing on those who can believe without seeing.
The shroud means absolutely nothing to my Faith though I believe it is the Image of God. But I have seen and see plenty that points to the existence of God. I’ve been testing the idea of the Biblical God against the world since my early twenties and God always wins. I started out doubting as a kid and then in my teens dismissed religion as a nice story weaklings use to comfort themselves. What have I learned after 60 years?: Bet on the Bible. Bet your life.
With all the anti-Shroud scientists saying it’s a fake they’ve never been able to reproduce one exactly; oh, they go and show minor proof as how it could have been created but never have come up with a Shroud of their own.
I see the Shroud as proof Jesus had a mustache.
Visited the church in Turin where The Shroud is stored. Unfortunately, only an exhibit about The Shroud was presented. Still an awesome sight. Along with The Last Supper fresco and The Holy Grail Shrine - truly memorable.
This site exhaustively documents every conceivable aspect of the Shroud:
https://theshroudofturin.blogspot.com/
The site is not intuitive, but if you go back to older posts you will be able to find a way to examine all of the evidence.
Once you get going the site can be addictive because of all the fascinating detail of every kind.
Authenticity of the Shroud is pretty much an “is” or “isn’t” thing. In my mind, where one falls is a matter of faith. “Proving” authenticity defies faith. And faith is simply defined in Hebrews 11:1;
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”.
Jimmy Swaggart said it is fake. That is good enough for me. I can now say with confidence that it is real.

2Co 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Heb 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
There is no actual evidence that this artifact is associated with Jesus. It appears to be a burial cloth for a man that was crucified sometime around the time of Jesus and in the same area. Doesn’t mean it’s Jesus. Would be cool if it is - but it can’t be proven so it’s just conjecture.
There is no scriptural reason for Jesus’ burial cloth to still be with us - just as there’s no reason to expect to find Noah’s Ark or the Ark of the Covenant.
