US Representative Tulsi Gabbard, the long-shot presidential candidate from Hawaii, said in a federal lawsuit that Google infringed on her free speech when it briefly suspended her campaigns advertising account after the first Democratic debate in June.
The lawsuit, filed on Thursday in a federal court in Los Angeles, is believed to be the first time a presidential candidate has sued a major technology firm.
In a twist that reflects Ms. Gabbards unorthodox political views, the claim that her speech was stifled by Google is similar to complaints made over the last year in Republican circles. Few Democrats have raised similar concerns.

Good target selection.
Google DO have deep pockets.
Tulsi Grabby.
Maybe she’s upset that they won’t use silkscreen for her face shots.
She’ll have to prove damages. $50M is a stretch. But, it got her in the news so maybe it’s advertising.
Google Executive: “We are big fans of yours.”
Tulsi: “Really? Will you donate money to my campaign?”
Google: “We’d like to, but there are restrictions. We really can’t give all that much, you know. But we have a better idea.”
Tulsi: “What do you have in mind?”
Google: “We will blatantly censor you after the first debate.”
Tulsi: “Errrrrrr, how does that help me?”
Google: “Well, you sue us for, let’s say, $50M. We’ll settle out of court for $30M.”
Tulsi: “I approve this plan.”
So how about the outright bans on conservatives?
Any significant settlement will buy a lifetime supply of surfboards [and likely Woody Wagons to haul them].
Amazing how it is Google being “nasty” when it’s the demoncrats getting pronged just a little... But a whole different story when conservatives get ten times the treatment...
Oh my. Its one thing to turn on your media allies when the political enemy is beaten. Its quite another when they arent.
I hear the new Bond movie is going to be called All the Popcorn in the World.
So how about the outright bans on conservatives?
If she wins, shell set a powerful precedent for conservatives to bring similar claims
We should join her and make it a class action lawsuit.
She should sue for 10 times more.
They will do this to GOP candidates, too, guaranteed.
LOL! Now _thats_ cynical! Follow the money!
She won’t win.
My concern is that this will turn into a sue-and-settle the Obama administration had with environmentalist groups. The liberal nonprofit sues to get some policy enacted that couldn’t pass democratically. The court “settlement” demanded land be ruled off-limits or passed some other regulation that never went through Congress.
They will do this to GOP candidates, too, guaranteed.
Isnt Silicon Valley already strategizing to kneecap Trump in 2020? If Tulsi lawsuit scares Google, we all gain
it getting too late for the feds to break up these trusts which have conspired to influence the election.
Sounds plausible. I wish it didn’t.
Interesting way to get a campaign contribution
