Vice President Mike Pence abruptly canceled a trip to New Hampshire earlier this month so he could avoid shaking hands with a former New York Giants player under investigation for allegedly dealing drugs in the state, a report said Monday.
Pence on July 2 suddenly scrapped a scheduled roundtable discussion on the opioid crisis at the Granite Recovery Center headquarters in Manchester, NH but his staff and the White House have stayed mum about why.
According to Politico, had Pence gone to the event, he would likely have met ex-NFLer Jeff Hatch, who was at the time being probed by the Drug Enforcement Administration for moving more than $100,000 of fentanyl from Massachusetts to New Hampshire.

Pussified if true.
But this sounds idiotic. Why wasn’t the bad guy disinvited instead?
Is that all it was about? Well, my goodness, they could have simply stated it at the time, vs this two week guessing game for political junkies (like me).
Or...
This report isn’t true.
He wouldn’t meet ‘white’ Jeff Hatch. It’s because he’s racist!
Exactly. This is pretty childish sounding. I would think the people putting on the event would have been told that he is not welcome to be on stage with the veep per secret service, and no further details would be needed.
Or, that Pence would have known and been prepared to handle it like a man somehow.
This story doesn’t make sense.
Maybe he (the player) didnt knew that he was under investigation yet.
Ha, well this stuff goes both ways. All those athletes who say “I’m not going to the White House”... well, the Executives don’t have to go to the athletes either.
The timing also perfectly coincided with the Russian sub accident. And, as someone else here noted, perhaps it wasn’t such an ‘accident’, and both sides would have reasons to keep the truth quiet.
Maybe they refused to disinvite him(the player). This was Pence protesting the event.
That is ridiculous and cannot possibly be the reason. Who thinks up this poop.
Yeah. They didn’t want to blow the investigation. So it was easier for Pence to cancel the whole thing than to tell the guy he can’t come to the event.
sounds like BS, but Mike did come to Colorado today, and I got to shake his hand at a fund-raising event today at a very large ranch in Windsor, CO.
During his speech Mike asked us to imagine what a disaster it would have been for our county if Hillary had been elected instead of Trump, and i couldn’t help myself and piped up and said that it would unthinkable what would happen in 2020 if Trump didn’t win. Mike said to me, “Hey, you should be up here giving this speech”, and at the rope line afterwards when he shook my hand he thanked me for “helping” with his speech.
He gave a great and powerful speech and was a very warm and personal person. What a really great guy. It was really an awesome experience. Mrs, Catnipman and I got to network with a whole passel of Cory Gardner and Donald Trump state election officials and chat with the new state party Chairman, Congressman Ken Buck.
May not have wanted to tip the guy off that he was under investigation.
There’s always the presumption of innocence though, so you simply decide not to enter into that situation.
I will never again vote for that POS gardner, and buck has been a huge disappointment. I’m not the only one in Northern Colorado to feel that way.
It sounds like the ballplayer did not know he was under investigation. Stupid even if that is true.
My B.S. detector pegged yesterday when I read the headline.
They thought shaking hands while wearing latex gloves would be a bad photo op.
The guy was caught in 2017. I read an article yesterday that he cooperated in catching higher level offenders. He pleaded guilty on the 19th to the 2017 offense. So, maybe disinviting him was more of a blow to that investigation than Pence not going at all. Keep all of the pieces in play.
