Senators want to roll back tax cuts to create jobs for long-term unemployed

Two Democratic senators want to claw back some of the Republican tax law, to create jobs for people who have been unemployed for a long period of time.

Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) introduced the Long-Term Unemployment Act__ on Thursday. The bill would create a federal program designed to generate jobs for people who have been out of work for at least six months.

The bill complements — and could eventually merge with — Wyden’s ELEVATE Act, which they say also aims to eliminate barriers to the labor market.

The senators’ plan would subsidize a job for up to one year for long-term unemployed workers — with the option to extend an additional year if the employee is working toward an additional credential or new skills.

First, the tax cuts aren’t permanent, as there is an expiration date on them. Second, each year until the expiration date we lose a little bit of the tax cuts unless they are made permanent. Such is the legacy of Ryan as Dumper of the House. They should have been made permanent in the first place. Most either don’t know this or it gets regulated to the back of their mind in their emotional state over Trump touting the tax cuts. Third, having long-term unemployment is a real challenge to overcome, even in this economy. This is one of the reasons why employers will state they cannot find skilled workers. Other excuses are the candidate has too much experience for the job or not enough. Then the employer will seek out an H1B1 visa holder as now they can legally do this because they have interviewed an American citizen who did not fit the qualifications of the job. Yes there are jobs out there, as a Veteran Representative told me once I graduated with my first degree. He told me he didn’t care what type of job I got, it could be a janitorial job and it would fulfill the requirement for Voc rehab. Why go to school if that is the case? A few years later, he went to jail for kickbacks for getting vets computers. Get a STEM degree and struggle to make payments on your loan because the H1B1 visa holders and other individuals abroad are taking the jobs, but hey you can get a janitorial job! Wait, illegals are taking that too now!

Sadly a lot of lemmings for some reason think a punitive income tax is ok.

Communists and Democrats can be seductive in seeming to want to "help" the "unfortunate."

But we have a booming economy because of the tax cuts. We have more job openings that people to fill the jobs.

Are these Communists just looking for more tax income to spend? What Is going on?

So: exactly which taxes do the dems want to raise to "create jobs?" The Trump tax cuts? Prior to passage of the Trump tax cuts, the U.S. had the highest corporate income taxes in the developed world, and democrats sat and grumbled that corporations were economic traitors for shifting investment abroad. The Trump tax cuts reduced U.S. corporate income taxes to the midrange of OECD rates.

The dems owe us an explanation of just exactly how re-imposing the highest corporate income taxes in the world will boost jobs.

Yeah - take care of all the demoralized degenerates Obama created by taking our money to make their lives easier because they go so used to being idle and lazy and on the Government teat. 5 million open jobs out there - if they ain’t working, they don’t want to work.

Yahoo advances the big like merely by dropping the word “TWO”.

They’ve really upped their game.

Cheaper to buy them off with welfare.

It's remarkable how little it costs to bribe the average Democrat voter, which is why bribery and corruption are so hard to fight. The NY Stock Exchange, now a server farm in a NJ warehouse, should go ahead and collateralize Democrat vote buying on a voter exchange. It would drive the going price of the moocher vote down to $5, far less than 'rat politicians currently spend of our tax money.

There are those who don’t want to work, won’t work or can’t work... they’re called the hard-core unemployed. I think our unemployment rate is about at that level, now.

I’m a 60-year-old technical writer who was laid off last October. Since then I have made some money as an Uber driver and a podcaster, but it’s not as much as I made in the past. Most employers around here say I’m overqualified for the job openings available; I suspect age discrimination is a factor, too. However, I get a lot of emails from people looking to hire for sales positions; just WHAT do they see in my resume that says I am good for “sales?”

By ‘sales’ they mean commission only, plus maybe minimum wage.

As for age discrimination, I got hit with it in my late fifties, so you’re probably soaking in it, too.

So, let’s intersect this vulnerable group with a government that cannot find it’s own collective behind with both hands and a flashlight. What could possibly go wrong?
