Matt Gaetz: 'Trump was triggering the media' with foreign oppo research comments
foxnews.com ^ | 6/14/19 | Charles Creitz with Liam Quinn

Pres Trump was trying to get a jolt out of the media saying he'd listen to foreign governments' opposition research, Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla, claimed. Trump told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos he would be willing to listen to foreign governments who had information on a political rival, and Gaetz said Thursday on "Hannity" that the president created a firestorm in the media that was largely unwarranted.

"Trump was triggering the media here, because the more they talk about foreign influence, the more they look ridiculous because the only candidate that we are certain engaged in no criminal conspiracy with a foreign power is Donald J. Trump, our president," the lawmaker claimed. "We also know the hypocrisy is so thick you can cut it with a knife," he continued. "The people you mentioned were literally inviting foreign influence into our election by proliferating lies funded by the (Democratic National Committee) and told by Russians to destabilize Donald Trump's candidacy and ultimately his presidency," he told Sean Hannity, who previously discussed the Steele dossier earlier in the program.

Part of Trump's interview with Stephanopoulos went public Wednesday evening. "I think I'd want to hear it... I think you might want to listen, there isn't anything wrong with listening," he told Stephanopoulos, an ex-White House communications director for former President Bill Clinton. "If somebody called from a country, Norway, -- 'we have information on your opponent' -- oh, I think I'd want to hear it," Trump continued.

One of the president's home-state senators, Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, responded to the interview by demanding Congress schedule impeachment proceedings. Trump's comments came just a month after he pledged not to use information stolen by foreign adversaries in his 2020 re-election campaign.

AOL News, which I have to get to get to my emails, never has a single good word to say about Trump. This morning’s vacuous headline is about a “group of Republicans” telling Nancy Pelosi Trump should be impeached over the Rule of Law, with some nonsense about these comments. I can imagine who the “Republicans” are - non-serving warmongers like Wm. Kristol and George Will, failed politician dilettantes like William Weld who resigned as MA governor after Clinton appointed him Ambassador to Mexico, an appt. fortunately blocked by Jesse Helms; and outlier past Bush appointees such as Charles Fried (I’m not certain who he was, only a nonentity).

President Trump has managed to get the lefties, RINOs and the media all shouting in unison and on record that to accept foreign intelligence/oppo research in an election is a crime.

It's going to be difficult for them to walk it back when Horowitz and Barr reveal the evidence that it was obama and hillary that accepted foreign intelligence/oppo research to smear candidate Trump.

The President has set them up like dominos.

And they fell for it....hook, line and sinker.

So here's Hillary's camp...colluding with foreign countries, hiding payments for the "opposition research" which was nothing more than fiction prepared to take down the President to be.

And the FBI said....OKAY....we'll take it from here.

They had to know about it from the beginning of the plot.

I think the correct term is "trolling" not "triggering."

Trump knew the Left would be triggered (i.e., get upset).

He was trolling them (i.e., baiting them) with the foreign influence talk.

Trump loves to tease people and play practical jokes. That's how he keeps his blood pressure under control.

That's what convinced his parents to send him to NY Military Academy back in junior high...and that's what he's doing here.

I was convinced the minute I first heard it he was trolling the media.

And it worked, they're all hysterical, while he sits there and laughs at them. Pelosi is about to have a cat, everybody and his dog is screaming for impeachment, the usual suspects are all blithering about it all over cable TV...

I gotta fix that picture...

Wasn’t the Steele dossier supposedly based on Russian intelligence? So it’s okay for Hillary and the DNC to use foreign sources for political purposes. Just WOW.

Just what I was thinking...he already knows the Dems accepted foreign info...triggers the rabid dems all the time...possibly while he was “waffling” waiting to decide if he was gonna run...he had researched and knew the simpleton shenanigans of the Dems.

This.

What everybody needs to remember, and this includes people on our side, is that Donald Trump doesn’t go to the restroom without a plan. That’s how you turn a $1,000,000 loan into a multibillion-dollar fortunate in 30 years, and that habit does not change.

Does anybody seriously believe that he went into an interview with George Stephanopoulos thinking that it would be fair, or that little Stephie wouldn’t try to trip him up? If so, please exit the discussion as you do not have an IQ above 80. President Trump pretty much knew that if he gave an answer like he did, the reaction would be pretty much along the lines that we have seen. You even have the FEC chairman saying that accepting such information would be a violation of campaign finance laws. Well, based on that standard guess which 2016 Democratic Presidential nominee violated campaign finance laws? I have to believe that this is exactly the reaction the Trump wanted, because he’s going to be able to trot out all of these statements by Democrats, and even the chairman of the FEC, and throw all of them back in their faces.

Yeah, he does play 3D chess.

Still laughing at the story that Conrad Black told on Byron York's podcast. When the President took over the Commodore Hotel (a story in itself) it was overrun by rats and the feral cat population was pushed into a small triangle. He had every cat he could find in New York City rounded up as reinforcements and an "alliance" of cats and "bipeds" defeated the rats. Hope it's a true story.

There is nothing wrong with receiving information on your opponent, from any source. The idea that this is something illegal is preposterous. That the press and the Democrats (and DOJ and FBI) have sold this idea speaks to the power of propaganda and mind control. Trump could take information from Putin himself and there would be nothing wrong.

But he didn’t. She did. Or, if you believe her people, they claim they did. Steele claims he got his information from Putin insiders. I don’t believe it, but that is their claim. We know they sent people to Ukraine digging for dirt. We know Steele was on Deripaska’s payroll, we know Fusion was on Russia’s payroll, as was Podesta, as were the Clintons themselves. Somewhere in there you will find real criminality. But if you wanted information on Clinton’s criminal associations with Russia or Muslim Brotherhood, or Qatar, or Haiti, or whatever, its probably going to come from a foreign source. Especially since Obama’s FBI and CIA are themselves implicated.

Or Trump, after brief reflection, changed his mind on a trivial piece of hypothetical speculation. The president is not god nor does he necessarily play chess every time he opens his mouth.

Come on people. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

Your cat story (which I’d never heard before - thanks) is similar to what he did with the ice hockey rink in Central Park. Once he was given responsibility for the project, he went and hired a Canadian company that did ice hockey rinks, on the theory that they had to be experts in the subject matter. Just like the cats. That’s part of his genius, knowing who (or what) to get to perform particular parts of jobs that he needs done.

So the Dims say foreign government sourced political dirt on your opponent must be turned over to the FBI and not viewed or used against them. Didn’t McCain read it and make sure that Steele hadn’t missed anyone in the media in New York and D.C. before turning it over to the FBI so THEY could start a counter intelligence op against Trump’s campaign? This feigned outrage is selective and designed to deflect from AG Barr and HRC and her minions in government and the media.
