Actor Danny Glover and writer Ta-Nehisi Coates are heading to Congress to testify about reparations for the ancestors of slaves.
Glover, 72, is the star of the Lethal Weapon film series among other movies and shows. Coates, 43, is an author and journalist who penned the The Case for Reparations, a 2014 essay in The Atlantic. The piece became a touchstone for the cause and helped push the matter into the national discourse.
The hearing will be held Wednesday in the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties. The goal of the hearing is to examine, through open and constructive discourse, the legacy of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, its continuing impact on the community and the path to restorative justice.

Don’t bill me. My ancestors were digging potatoes in Ireland.
Include me..
My ancestors were likely Roman slaves...what idiots we have in this country.
If Danny can prove he picked cotton as a slave, more power to him.
Danny Glover heading to Capitol Hill to talk reparations
Yes let’s talk about my refund for the last movie I seen with him in it!
As where mine, Patrick did not arrive on these shores until 1866, two years after the end of The Civil War.
Great, he can ask about my check. My ancestors lost their homes in North Carolina because they volunteered to join the Union Army to free Danny’s ancestors.
WHO is Danny Glover? Was he in the Matrix films? Or was it Pulp Fiction?
Is he a star?
If anything, they owe me for all the years my career was hurt by affirmative action and for all the years my taxes were redistributed to others.
Ingratitude toward the country that has offered him so much is an ugly thing to witness.
Reparations for the _ancestors_ of slaves? I’m pretty sure they have been dead for well over 100 years.
Will the reparations be multigenerational? Because, most will be blown quickly.
If multigenerational, why not just admit they want to establish a hereditary black ruling class?
My ancestors were digging potatoes in Ireland and eating monkeys in the Philippines..........
Slavery has existed for as long as there have been people. Only America, in her first century as a new nation, abolished slavery out of the decency and compassion of the American people, and the inherent thirst for justice in our brilliant founding principles and Christian governing ethos.
Stop running around with your hand out, people will think you're not a black-privileged Hollywood millionaire.
Screw You, Danny Glover. You never picked cotton, I never owned a slave.
Does the Left try to push reparations only when Republicans are in control, trying to make them look racist?
Same here.. Neither side of my family arrived in the US until the 1900s.
The logic here seems to be as follows: “I’m not a slave. You’re not a slave owner. You’re not even related to slave owners. But still, give me money because somebody who looked like you did something bad to somebody who looked like me 150 years ago.”
REPARATIONS FOR VICTIMS OF AFFIRMATIVE ACTION!!!
