The College Board plans to introduce an adversity score that will accompany an applicants SAT score in order to give college-admissions officers greater insight into how the applicants social and economic privilege may have contributed to their academic performance.
The adversity score, which will be made available to colleges but not the students themselves, will reflect 15 different factors including the crime rate and average income level in a students neighborhood, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.
The new metric is currently being used by 50 colleges and will likely expand to 150 schools this fall.
There are a number of amazing students who may have scored less [on the SAT] but have accomplished more, said David Coleman, chief executive of the College Board. We cant sit on our hands and ignore the disparities of wealth reflected in the SAT.

This is intrinsically racist.
Are there study guides and programs which will help me to boost my score? Are there practice exams?
Now you can buy privilege for admission.
The soft bigotry of low expectations.
So, it’s the inverse of Credit Score....................
In layman’s terms, it’s called “discrimination”.
The White kids should just label themselves “black” for purposes of the test.
After all, aren’t we told every day that “race” is just a construct?
Insanity
Classist.
Honestly, if were going to have affirmative action type programs, I could live with a socioeconomic measure of a students background a whole lot easier than I can live with racial quotas. Not every kid from a minority background is disadvantaged. Some are from families that are quite wealthy. Not every White kid is privileged. Just go to Appalachia some time.
Asians whose parents propagandized them to strive for excellence and education obviously got unfair advantages and illiterate boys from the hood are surely just as smart and deserving but did not have parents pushing them therefore the illiterates are preferred over the strivers.
Also get a PO Box in the ‘hood.
College Board president David Coleman is a frequent Dem Party donor.
I’m sure freepers will not be surprised to hear that.
If other institutions did this level of demographic detail down to say zip code level to make decisions on whom to serve ,etc, they could be charged with a crime. Banks are not allowed to use demographic data and like below a metropolitan area for decisions that might impact credit availability.
Can’t wait to see white conservatives complain about how this discriminates against Asians. Take literally any side but your own.
So rich liberals will buy up low income houses in all black neighborhoods, not to ever live in of course, but for their kids to use as addresses when taking the SAT.
Say goodbye to the SAT test and the College Board company. Kids who expect to get high scores won’t take SAT’s, and will instead go to college test companies that don’t shoot them in the back.
Hooray! Now rich and poor, white and black can be equally ignorant. Zimbabwe here we come!!
I believe as Reagan did, “I don’t care if every seat is taken by an Asian, if they’ve earned the right to be there.”
