Reddits The_Donald group claims 740,000 subscribers, or patriots, as they call themselves. This raucous corner of the internet is home to all things wonderful about Trump and tends to get slammed by critics as toxic to the public discourse.
From Islamophobia and misogyny to disinformation and propaganda, the group is often called out for violating Reddits rulebook. Yet, even as more sites have been purged across social media, The_Donald is still going strong.
But why? Let former Reddit CEO Ellen Pao explain it:
The fear that platform employees have of their users drives a lot of decision making in ways you dont expect. My guess is that theres a lot of fear of people who are running and using The_Donald. Its not a subreddit that is following the rules or should actually be there.
As she told Mother Jones in a recent interview, beyond the fear of backlash from users, it boils down to a business decision. Its hard to take down a subreddit which is driving a lot of traffic, she said.
Meanwhile, current CEO Steve Huffman has been roundly slammed for allowing the group, which hails Trump as God emperor, to stand. Last year, Huffman elaborated as to why racism doesnt violate Reddit rules.

“Facebook was started and managed by the CIA.”
Developed by DARPA.
[Big Tech chokes that off in many ways]
Yep. The Libs at YT delete comments a lot of times if they are not P.C.
Dissenter - a conservative commentary plugin. Banned by Firefox. Mozilla and Chrome try to shut it down, saying it violates their use policies.
“Talks like a lib, looks like a lib [and the picture]”
Nice looking. That’s all I want from the media ladies.
Right - and theyre all blocked from PayPal, other banks and google play and the Apple store.
We live in a fascist socialist state where leftists dont believe in liberty or free speech and are trying to dictate their political views.
Crash the eyeball numbers. We need to have a conservative-tolerant social media forum. If Reddit won’t do it, start something else, or expand freep into it.
Islamaphobia, scared of children singing about chopping off the heads of infidel. yea, pure hysteria. Idn’t it?
I’ve got yellow jackets nesting in the eves. Come on by and get as many as you want!
We need to have a conservative-tolerant social media forum.
If Usenet returned to popularity, it would be like the brief days of Tienanmen Square, where dazed people wandered around wondering what to do with all that freedom.
“Ergo, the banning of conservatives from the social media is NOT a CIA plot. It just doesn’t pass the smell (or rational judgment) test.”
They aren’t here to observe, listen to, and hack conservatives, or any of their enemies for that matter. All that information is used for one thing. Political repression. There comes a tipping point that all suppressing their target becomes worthwhile.
Banning you from all participation is the modern equivalent of marching you to a ditch on the edge of town and shooting you. We have reached the point where they can gain more traction by identifying conservatives and stopping the propagation of ideas, stopping the flow of money related to those ideas, stopping the ability to rapidly organize, and stopping the ability of conservatives to interdict government (enemy) propaganda.
So it does indeed pass the smell test and the rational judgement test. Holding Assange incommunicado is the same concept.
I figured you’d say “Just log on to Facebook for your free jacket!”
BTW that sounds like a honey-trap.
Just sayin’. /adjusts tinfoil
She looka like a man to me.
But, to each his own.
;)
Does this all sound like dropping an enormous hint? ^_^
Twitter: started and managed by liberals
Facebook: started and managed by liberals
Amazon: started and managed by liberals
Google: started and managed by liberals now
Reddit: started and managed by liberalsConservatives want to use liberal owned and operated platforms and cry and whine like babies when it doesnt work out to their liking...
How smart do you have to be to see?
Where are the conservative social media entrepreneurs and platforms? Or are liberals that much smarter?
“Where are the conservative social media entrepreneurs and platforms? Or are liberals that much smarter?”
Too simplistic, bigbob. The fascist social media has the economic power to shut down any and all conservative competitors. It can cut off the sale of apps, for example, needed by Gab to compete.
Hey Ellen, go die in a fire.
The pedes were much amused by Chairman Pao’s whining - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMfV9cDMfAQ
I was posting at The Donald for a brief period, but I got banned for a post that would have been fine here.
I don’t miss it one tiny little bit.
Thank you for your #19. Very well laid out.
Maybe it's a glass half full/half empty kind of thing, but I'm quite hopeful the pendulum will swing back our way.
That said, I will take your comment to heart and think about it.
