Flying cars could save us from climate change
CNN ^ | April 10, 2019 | by Jen Christensen

Maybe the Jetsons were climate change activists?

A new study shows that the cartoon family was on to something when they used a flying car for transportation.

Several companies and even agencies such as NASA have been scrambling to create flying cars, hoping to launch the service in the next decade, and that may be a part of the answer to help curb climate change, according to a new study.

The study compared the energy use of the electric version of flying cars, known as electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft or VTOLs, to that of traditional and electric cars. The study also looked at the time-saving aspect of the vehicles and their overall energy use.

According to the study, fully loaded with a pilot and three passengers, flying electric cars would have about 52% lower greenhouse gas emissions than traditional cars and would generate 6% lower greenhouse gas emissions than electric cars over trips of 100 kilometers, about 62 miles.

The study found that flying cars wouldn't necessarily be more sustainable on a short commute compared with electric vehicles, but they would be a good sustainable alternative for longer trips.

The authors conclude that more research is needed to see exactly how viable flying cars are in terms of cost and noise.

Another Lib idiocy that looks good on paper, but fails in reality.

I would suspect, PSI [pounds per square inch], it would take more energy to ‘lift’ a vehicle to ‘flight height’ than to propel it down a roadway.

There are going to be no flying cars in any foreseeable future.
Outside of the serious engineering problems, considering the regulation of drones, can you imagine what the FAA and the Gov would do to regulate flying cars?

Just like private jets, only the very rich and political elite would be able to use them.

Pretty impressive performance for something that hasn't even been designed yet. Pro tip: when you encounter the word "would" in this sort of screed you can pretty much file the thing in the trash.

The energy must still come from somewhere.

Ridiculous. The clowns who are driving cars now will be given little helicopter airplanes? The idiocy you now see in two dimensions will become chaos in three dimensions.

The idiots behind the wheel of cars would become kamikaze death pilots in flying machines.

And it would not reverse “climate change.”

They hate the private car. That’s why they tax the hell out of it, ban it from certain areas, demonize it, and plan to rip it out of our hands by forcing us to use “driverless” cars.

Maybe. new study. hoping. may. The Study, The Study. According to the study.
The authors conclude that more research is needed.
The study found that flying cars wouldn't necessarily be more sustainable on a short commute compared with electric vehicles, but they would be a good sustainable alternative for longer trips. [according to the study].

This a satire article, right?

Let me pose the first obvious question:
If these vehicles became commercially available, how would they navigate and be monitored in our air space? Countless new ATC towers? Some sort of new transmission towers? Cell phone towers? WiFi? GPS sent from satellites? What?

Hell, I still don't trust self-driving ground cars. Think of the potential for accidents in air and the devastation when falling to the ground.

This is what NASA spends our tax dollars on? Sheesh.

“Good. At least you’ll be in trouble now too!! :)”

I will shoulder the burden, though luckily I have not yet been in real trouble.

I hate PC so much that I know I have definitely taken snark too far sometimes, but I will continue to snark until I can snark no more. I have toned a few of my favorite jokes back a bit lately because I know they do legitimately offend some freepers that do not get the references, and our freepers do not deserve to unintentionally be offended...SJWs are free to have the kitchen sink thrown at them though.

I can see flying police chases now. Going to look like WWII dogfights over neighborhoods, because some 17 stole George Jetsons briefcase and went joy flying!

We kill over 30,000 people a year because drivers can’t negotiate front, back, right, and left.

How many more if we add up and down?

Back in the 70’s I new the guy who made a flying car. It had detachable wings, and you could drive the car portion, as the engine would run the prop or drive the rear wheels. Got a call from someone who wanted to buy on and asked what was my recommendation? I said well it was a lousy plane and a lousy car. Lost a friend

Right. And let’s get busy on building AOC’s trans Atlantic bridge for cars, too.

If you are remotely scientifically literate this will immediately strike you as complete BS. You too can run your car on water at a hundred miles to the gallon.

Yeah there was a thread about a Staten Island couple that murdered a woman and the guy’s last name sounded Italian but wasn’t (obvious from his picture).

Some FReeper said the names sounds like a WOP.

I’m not gonna lose sleep over stuff like that.

I use the words myself, and I’ve used words for Irish, German, etc...

Funny thing is using a word for blacks or hispanics would cause grief for Jim fro the outside if it was discovered so it’s good we don’t go there.
