The Scottish parliament has just voted to stop the Brexit process by revoking article 50 unless there is an extension to allow for a second referendum on Brexit
"So what?," you might say. They can't legally force the UK government to do anything.
But there is something else deeply significant happening here. Read between the lines and you can see the case being made for another referendum on Scottish independence. as well as for another Brexit vote.
Today's vote was proposed by the Scottish Greens. The SNP added their own amendment which "calls on the UK government to stop ignoring the views of this parliament and overwhelming majority of people in Scotland who wish to remain in EU".
In that sentence you can see how they hope to build support for independence on the back of Brexit. By telling Scottish voters they are being ignored by a government in London which does not respect their opinion or their elected representatives.
..As the Europe and External Affairs secretary Fiona Hyslop said in the Holyrood chamber today: "A second referendum is an opportunity and not a guarantee for the wishes of Scotland to be respected.
"It is only by becoming an independent country that we can guarantee the votes of people in Scotland will not be ignored."

Have the Scots voted on the matter?
For independence? yes, in 2014, 55% voted against. And in 2016 for the Brexit referendum, 62% voted to remain in the EU. Those would convert into a 60% approx vote for independence now if given the chance
The Brits can make for the loss by picking up Ireland, which is actually discussing reuniting with NI into the commonwealth to avoid a hard border.
Let them go. The Scots can fend for themselves.

That seems fine by me. I have Scottish friends who are split on the issue. I believe all nations should be independent, that’s why we have nations. But if they would want to be part of the EU more than part of the UK, so be it. I would think it would be pretty difficult however.
So the English go for a no-deal Brexit AND get rid of the lazy Scottish welfare deadbeats? BONUS! The English should be supportive of this...
Hard to tell sometimes whether they are a welfare burden or an oil boon for the UK overall. But I don’t think they’d be all that happy if it was a hard border between them and England that sprouted up next.
They want immediate membership in the E.U.
They want immediate membership in the Eurozone.
They want their share of the U.K. sovereign debt forgiven.
Legally, none of these can happen.
They also wanted the U.K. to keep all of its Scotland based military bases in Scotland, and not move their troops, money, and jobs to England.
The path for Scotland from the protective embrace of the U.K. to the protective embrace of the E.U. requires five years in the wilderness as an orphan, with their own currency.
If you think Brexit is difficult, Scotexit is even harder.
I dunnno... I’ve seen Trainspotting. Socialism has made them a very pathetic lot, nothing like William Wallace. The fact is that independence is initially tough, and no one should soft-play that. It takes gumption to form an independent country, and everyone in that country has to lift themselves up by their bootstraps.
Ummm, they want independence from the UK, but want to tug their forelocks for Brussels?!
Boy, they sure don’t make Scots like they used to....
The Scottish National Party is on track to lose seats in the next Scottish Parliament election. They will probably form a minority government as the largest party, but will face a Unionist majority between Labour, the Lib Dems, and the Scottish Tories.
So this is a last gasp cheap shot by the SNP.
Samuel Johnson on Scotland:
“...
‘Have you observed the difference between your own country impudence and Scottish impudence?’ The answer being in the negative: ‘Then I will tell you,’ said Johnson. ‘The impudence of an Irishman is the impudence of a fly, that buzzes about you, and you put it away, but it returns again, and flutters and teases you. The impudence of a Scotsman is the impudence of a leech, that fixes and sucks your blood.’
....”
not gonna happen, most of Scotland like most of England is on the dole... they need the UK to maintain their socialist welfare state.
I find it very hard to believe that there is any serious talk within the Republic of Ireland on ceding their independence to put themselves under the "protection" of the crown again.
I can’t do link easy on phone but article is on the Belfast telegraph if u want to check. I can post link later at home.
The Steele dossier constructed as a conspiracy to remove President Trump has British Royal family written all over it. Christopher Steele was an MI6 employee with ties to the Royals. Their influence over Europe and the Commonwealth has steadily been declining. With Scotland and Northern Ireland demanding independence, England will see more of their territory slip away. This is why they wanted Hillary to win the election because of her pro EU/NATO globalist agenda.
I too support secession as a general principle, but solo-Scotland is not a viable entity. And they’re only pursuing a means to remain in the EU, which is not independence.
