Hard to tell sometimes whether they are a welfare burden or an oil boon for the UK overall. But I don’t think they’d be all that happy if it was a hard border between them and England that sprouted up next.
As proud as they are, I doubt that very much.
Scotland hasn't been a serious economic engine for a very long time, if ever. For the most part, they're dependent upon government largess from the rest of the UK for their survival.
Now, if they can capture the North Sea oil fields as part of their national territory, it might work. That is, unless the Socialists controlling Edinburgh don't nationalize them, ala Hugo Chavez.
