Republican Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney responded Tuesday after the University of Wyoming’s new slogan “The World Needs More Cowboys” drew criticism for being “racist” and “sexist.”
“The world DOES need more Cowboys,” Cheney told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “Cowboys and cowgirls embody the no-nonsense, never-back-down grit at the heart of our Wyoming heritage.”

Lot of old cowboys in my family. I like their direct way of speaking. My dad could say more with fewer words than anyone I ever knew & worked harder and longer than many are willing to now do. The driest humor, too. Loved his ways.

In Montana weren’t they called cattleranchers or cattlemen?
Cowpunchers? Stockman? Drovers?
I think I read somewhere recently that the actual amount of time that that the driving cattle northward was taking place was about 4 years max. Those longhaul drives abated because of railheads being established in more locations.
The stockmen went into ranching with introduction of barbed wire. Meaning they did not have to drive cattle to grass they could feed them on their own lots at that point.

In Cowboy history there have been a lot of black and Mexican cowboys. My grandfather’s ranch foreman was a black man and damn good at handling cattle.
