NYT: Border at ‘Breaking Point’ as More than 76,000 Migrants Cross in a Month
New York Times ^ | March 5, 2019 | Caitlin Dickerson

Posted on 03/05/2019 11:19:48 AM PST by reaganaut1

For the fourth time in five months, the number of migrant families crossing the southwest border has broken records, border enforcement authorities said Tuesday, warning that government facilities are full and agents are overwhelmed.

More than 76,000 migrants crossed the border without authorization in February, more than double the levels from the same period last year and approaching the largest numbers seen in any February in the last 12 years.

“The system is well beyond capacity, and remains at the breaking point,” Kevin K. McAleenan, commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, told reporters in announcing the new data.

Diverted by new restrictions at many of the leading ports of entry, migrant families continue to arrive in ever-larger groups in remote parts of Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. At least 70 such groups of 100 or more people have turned themselves in at Border Patrol stations that typically are staffed by only a handful of agents, often hours away from civilization. By comparison, only 13 such groups arrived in the last fiscal year, and two in the year before.

More than 90 percent of the new arrivals were from Guatemala, officials said, with a significant change in the dynamics of the migration: While Central American migrants once took weeks to journey through Mexico to the United States, many Guatemalan families are now boarding buses and reaching the southwest border in as little as four to seven days “on a very consistent basis,” Mr. McAleenan said.

Mr. McAleenan also declared sweeping changes to the agency’s procedures for guaranteeing adequate medical care for migrants — an overhaul brought on by the deaths of two migrant children in the agency’s custody in December.

Yes, and they're rubbing their hands in glee that the Cloward-Piven strategy is working so well on the border. ---

Yep .............

Trump just tell Mexico that the border is closed to all traffic by land. It will remain closed until you stop and hold the invaders. Only passport holders of US citizens will be allowed entry and that’s that.

The invasion strategy is working. This register, hold briefly, treat and release strategy is almost worse than nothing and costs more. When will the border just collapse and we will have to fall back as large portions of the US become foreign countries?

>> Guatemalan families are now boarding buses and reaching the southwest border in as little as four to seven days <<

And then they surrender to the Border Patrol that has become a concierge service.

Every child on Medicaid, welfare and education. 60k per year is billions of dollars. Who is paying?

Not the first time Dems have looted the treasury to buy votes. Now they are buying an entire class of poor voters. They will cut this Nations throat for political power.

Thanks for posting. The comments on this thread are beyond stupid.

I don’t think there was any ulterior motive. Obviously, it makes the “migrants” look sympathetic...and they are, because they’re people in desperate circumstances, set up to do this mostly by US-funded leftist NGO’s. Many of their countries have appealed for them to stay home (because they need the labor, too), and even Mexico does not want all its brightest and best emigrating.

But that’s something the leftists never normally talk about. Or the fact that many of the NGO-sponsored illegal immigrants are not the deserving, hardworking poor, but are gangbangers hated in their own countries. And if we don’t have border control, then they’re in free.

The Times may be noticing this because Long Island has become an MS 13 hotbed and in fact crime by illegals from Latin America (and Africa) is becoming a serious factor in NYC life.

Trump just tell Mexico that the border is closed to all traffic by land.

It seems so uncomplicated and part of the oath taken by those who swear to enforce the Constitution.

If it is a group of illegal entrants it is an invasion. The only reason it is just a "potential" military invasion rather than a full-blown military invasion is because the illegal entrants are not wearing uniforms.

Given the ineffectiveness of our national politicians, it seems almost certain the morale of those Americans employed to protect our borders on a day-to-day basis is currently at an all-time low.

What will there be to do when they throw their hands up in the air and declare, "We have been overrun."?

History is full of examples and suggestions in this regard.

These guys are the boots on the ground:

This organization needs to be held financially responsible for this mess. Or maybe there should be a RICO investigation.

“Long Island has become an MS 13 hotbed”

Good. I am all for funneling these people to the sanctuary states/cities. Let them deal with the mess they are creating.

Why is the NYT suddenly publishing the truth? They can’t have grown a conscience. Can they?

The Cloward-Piven strategy orchestrated by soros / soetoro / jarrett with the help of democrats.

This is an act of war.

Border patrol has estimated that they only catch 1 in 5 border crossers so 15,000,000 could have crossed in the last 4 months.
