Hawaii is considering a bill that bans cigarette sales to anyone under 100

(CNN)"The legislature finds that the cigarette is considered the deadliest artifact in human history."

So begins the text of a new bill introduced in Hawaii's State House, calling for a phased ban on cigarette sales in the state by 2024.

Hawaii has some of the most restrictive cigarette laws in the nation. In 2016, it became the first state to raise the age to buy cigarettes to 21. Now, its new bill calls for raising the cigarette-buying age to 30 by next year, up to 40, 50 and 60 in each subsequent year, and up to 100 by 2024.

That would effectively clear Hawaii's store shelves of cigarettes, although tourists could still bring them in.

And curiously, Hawaii would offer its centenarians the chance to buy cigarettes near the end of their life -- if they could find them.

I am stunned by how fast a state can destroy itself within one generation.

I would have island fever, being disconnected from the mainland.

Sort of like living in California.

Overheard at Jet’s, on Koapaka Street behind JN’s in Honolulu: “ I love my cig’rettes. I’ll smoke them ‘til I die. Then they can pry them from my cold dead hands. (Cough)”

"I believe this would badly affect tourism."

Au contraire, mon FReeper.

I think the tourist of 2024 could fly in with a duffle bag of cartons of nails, and trade those for amazing discounts on lodging and recreation.

Me? I'd say charter a boat from the West Coast, fill it with a container of smokes. Give the captain and crew a healthy tip, and move the cargo once you get there.

But I get seasick. Not for me.

Cue the "mental disorder" for Leftists...

On the other hand, this may generate a cottage industry of household tobacco growers.

Sort of like living in California.

More crowded and no escape...

...unless you have a sailboat.

And they do have some excellent pineapples.

Their friend Obama was the poster boy of cool smoker when we do it... it was the Kamel Kool look they used to attack. A supposed conservative cop and smoker friend of mine thought that Obama having no complex about smoking was a sign of character... so I am thinking the Obama smoking was definitely a targeted campaign given how libs keep moralizing smoking at every corner otherwise...

Excellent news!
It’s very hard for Centenarians to get good paying jobs.
Now they can make a killing in black market tobacco. :)

Ironic that the Amer-Indian should exact such a deadly toll on the paleface.

They started paying Maryland farmers to stop growing tobacco a long time ago.

But I think it’s still legal to farm it; and in most places legal to grow some for personal use.

I’ve never smoked marijuana, don’t know what it’s like, don’t think it’s good for people - (my father, who once smoked some down in Texas in the late 1940s, said he didn’t know why anybody would want that if there was a beer or good shot of whiskey around).

But I like the occasional tobacco smoke, and would like to learn to grow it. And I think it’s important to save all plants in case we don’t yet know the extent of their properties.
