I take Serrapeptase and have taken it for years. I have Prinzmetal Amgina and Hydradenitis Suppurativa. Started taking it for the HS and noticed I was having fewer and fewer Angina attacks. Now I have almost none.

“are these Russians out there vitamin D-ing, or just freeze-flashing in the snow?”

Russians are a whole different breed!

I flew into Moscow years ago. Overnight from London. Landed at 5am their time.

On the way out of the airport, I saw a soccer field lit up - 6am - and men playing soccer in shorts and T-shirt’s. It was well below freezing.

It was never a Heart or Cancer prevention method, it is BONES D3 helps. Fish oil fares no better in prevention of heart disease. Nor does that Glucosamine and Chondroitin junk for joint pain. Hubby took it for years, never worked. K2 Complex helps keep your bones healthy and Plaque out of your arteries.

Getting a partial knee DID work.

Add Strontium Citrate to the list of Bone Vits. I’ve been using them to reverse OP. I refuse to take those horrid OP meds, 1 A-Fib ER trip with a sample of Fosamax 75 mg was enough to scare the H out of me. You Magnesium needs to be Citrate at half your Calcium dosage. Mag Oxide is NOT well absorbed, good for giving you diarrhea though.

I just looked up what it took for a baby’s bones to grow and adjusted the amounts for a adult. Don’t forget Zinc, it’s the Master Mineral of the Body, well over looked is the role of Selenium in the body, it maybe a trace mineral it’s an Important one. Gives you better sleep than Melatonin to boot. E is the Master Vitamin of the Body. Earl Mendel’s Vitamin Bible was a stable when I was raising my boys.

Doctors knowledge of Vitamins/Minerals role in the human body is terrible lacking. Unless they are Natural Paths. A Nutritionist is even DUMBER.

You miss the point

The point is winter. Winter is when there is no sun and folks get sick and die

D3 prevents that

Fish oil fares no better in prevention of heart disease. Nor does that Glucosamine and Chondroitin junk for joint pain.

When I started taking fish oil, I noticed an immediate reduction in heart palpitations and my resting heart rate dropped noticeably, with no other changes in diet or activity. So, it must be doing something.

Agree on Glucosamine (though I know people who swear that it works). On the other hand, Turmeric Curcumin does have a real effect on joint pain, as many here will confirm.

That is amazing, sheana. I’ve read it is also prescribed for sinus drainage.

Do you take it on an empty stomach and wait an hour before taking anything else? I take several things that call for that, and wondered if any of them could be combined to be taken at the same time, before eating.

I take it about 9pm every night on an empty stomach. I told my doctor about it and he said he was going to read up on it. All I can say is it works for me.

Regarding claims and studies.

Early on there were lots of claims about all sorts of benefits for D3 including cancer prevention and heart wellness. The original benefits namely prevention of colds, respiratory problems, flu and resultant pneumonia were never mentioned in the blanket condemnations.

A kardashian remedy claim is ludicrous, stupid even. Forget about all but respiratory benefits and you still come out way,way ahead.

Thanks. You are correct as far as it goes. I painted it with too broad a stroke.

Every 40+ man needs a PSA test and a DRE

Since 2012 the medical profession has been advising away from PSA and toward DRE. PSA has too many false readings causing unneeded tests and biopsies\surgeries.

Let me clarify..I asked why they stopped giving me the PSA.

From my Doctor: "Advise against PSA screening for prostate cancer per current guidelines with no FH".(Whatever FH means)

It appears my V.A. PCP wont\can't order the test as part of my yearly exam....it has to come from a urologist. Even though I am being actively treated for BPH.
I asked the urologist about it and she walked me thru the guidelines. The following is from therurologist notes in my med records:

"Breifly reviewed USPSTF vs AUA and NCCN guidelines of PSA as part of prostate cancer screening. Patient is interested in continued PSA testing as part of prostate cancer screening"...

They would not ok it.

thanx. see my post #119 ...I was too general which made my statement wrong.

Just read a report that if men live long enough, we all will get prostrate cancer.

Interesting thing. The VA doesn’t do fasting tests anymore except by specific Dr. orders.
I had a bunch of lab tests come back with high readings...including the PSA.
she asked me to fast for 24 hrs and we’ll take the tests again.
The results showed numbers way lower than the first test.

I am taking Finasteride. My next(and last) PSA test showed a dramatic drop in PSA levels.
