If he declares a national emergency, our heads will spin with the volume of lawsuits that will be filed. There will be court injunctions and probably nothing will happen with the wall as the cases go through the courts. Trump knows this. Will he get more credit with the base for trying this approach? Hard to say if it doesn’t work and I don’t think it will....

Absolutely. No one before...or since Reagan...ever even tried.
But we need to understand that the government establishment and the governing class have the power in today’s society. The people have nothing unless they take it by force...in part mass immigration of the poor is all about preventing that from ever happening. Trump as a lone wolf has no power whatsoever. If they have the votes to over ride on this (which is what this means), they have the votes, likely, to impeach and convict if he declares national emergency (the 9th circuit would stop him anyway).
