Senate Democrats blocked a White House backed-plan to end the 34-day partial shutdown, turning it down in a 51-47 vote on Thursday.
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) joined with Republicans to advance the measure, but it fell short of the 60 votes needed to defeat a filibuster.
In an unexpected development, Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) voted against Trump's plan. Lee is considered a fiscal hawk and Cotton is one of the Senates most conservative members on immigration.
The Senate is expected to hold a second vote Thursday on a continuing resolution (CR) that would fund the quarter of the government currently closed until Feb. 8. That bill is also expected to fail, though a few Republicans have said they will support it.

Bipartisan Senate majority votes FOR Trumps wall funding plan ...
Correction: it was 50-47
Three Senators were absent. Paul, Risch and Rosen
Shutdown will continue.
Neither bill would make it to the Presidents desk.
Time to go nuclear and see what the house does with that in their lap.
Next they will vote to advance the House passed CR.
Before anybody jumps ugly, could Lee and/or Cotton have been voting nay for procedural reasons?
If not, let the jumping ugly commence.
Was this the bill that included fully funding the wall ?
PDJT’s fault right?
YAWN, I hope the furloughed folks realize that the Dems could get them back to work in a NY minute for a measly 5 billion dollar wall, less the one dollar nancy provided.
It will fail.
This was a show vote and were a long way from a bipartisan deal to end the shutdown.
Who knows? I will give Lee and Cotton the benefit of the doubt before knee-jerking and flaming against them.
Some people here were suggesting that Mike Lee would make a good SCOTUS justice. No thanks!
I’m working on it....
Nancy Pelosi is demanding that every American keep their Front Doors unlocked and open or she will continue the Federal Government Partial Shutdown.
“Next they will vote to advance the House passed CR.”
Sorry, I should have said they will vote whether or not to advance the House bill. I don’t expect that it will pass.
Let's REALLY correct the vote: it was 47-1 against. Manchin voted for it, the Demorats voted against it, and those Senators with an "R" after their name were ALL absent.
Democrats can keep playing political games but they wont be able to force Trumps hand.
He isnt caving.
This is the voters fault. We got Trump in but we need to vote in enough of the rest to get whay we want.
Useless wankers. All of them.
