If the governor has his way, New Yorkers won't use plastic bags anymore.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is proposing a ban on plastic bags as part of this year's executive budget.
The effort is to combat litter because plastic bags do not biodegrade. Cuomo said Sunday that the ban will also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with plastic bag production and disposal - from the petroleum used to produce the bags to emissions from their transportation to landfills.
The governor said that reusable bags and exemptions will be applied "where appropriate."

How about we keep the plastic bags and say goodbye to you
Dothe people get to vote on this or do our betters just deem things law?
Is that how things work today?
How about doubling or tripling littering violations’ penalties, instead?! As others on this thread have mentioned, plastic shopping bags are only a small fraction of the problem, and they are highly (re)-useful...
Sooooo human nature never was considered in that great lib plan!?
I bet in the manson he lives it will still have plastic trash bags...they never folow the laws they pass. Never understood why they do these things? Control? For sure they are insane.
Idiot.
FWIW, Aldi not only ‘charges’(rents) you for the cart but doesn’t GIVE you anything to carry your purchases out.
You can purchase or bring in your own bags (not sure if any restrictions on what you can use at checkout) or cart them to your vehicle and unload cart into whatever you want.
Then you return cart to rack to retrieve your quarter.
Main problem with grocery carts is too many people didn’t go through the days when the cart couldn’t be moved from the sidwalk in front of store (’permanent barriers’ were in place) when you had to leave your groceries and hope they were still there when you got back with your car.
Like someone stated the reason for plastic bags was to ‘save the trees’..
Sort of like people push for electric cars because vehicles use fossil fuels to power them..
Someone has to inform them what runs power plants...especially since the same crowd wants to ban Nuclear Power Plants and we know that eventually Peta will have the windmills declared dangerous...OF COURSE, AFTER a few billion more is spent installing them.
Oh yes this electric car ‘love affair’ is nothing new, electric cars were around in the early 1900s.
Guess when ‘long distance’ travel was in vogue, extension cords and recharging stations were few and far between —Would imagine getting a charge was akin to finding a toilet while on the road....
This is New York. The litterer will not be fined. It's the landlords who will be fined for the litter on their sidewalk. Fines are $100 to $250.
How are those plastic bags getting into the desert? Folks on off-the-grid homesteads? Campers? Ceyotes dumping over garbage cans? People (i.e. truckers) throwing the bags out the window of their vehicles?
So you will roll that thing through a gut spewed parking lot at toss it into your car? I hope there is a plastic bag to put on the bottom of it to protect your car. And, will you roll it into your house. With plastic bags, you do not contaminate anything.
I saw my previous post needed some editing:
So you will roll that thing through a gut-spewed parking lot and toss it into your car? I hope there is a plastic bag to put on the bottom of it to protect your car from parking lot contamination. It is bad enough what your feet track in. And, will you roll it into your house? With plastic bags, you do not contaminate anything.
“Newspaper and magazines btw, take centuries to degrade if they end up in landfills”
Do we care what happens to them when in landfills? We don’t grow things in landfills. Will the landfills eventually be spread out and things grown on them? If so, the newspapers near the surface will be a good soil amendment. But along with the newspapers is other solid junk some of which is toxic.
EXACTLY. I remember using some of them a few years back to store something outside and they turned to rags after a couple of months. These @$$holes are making up laws just to feel good without having ANY concept of the reality behind what they’re trying to address.
How about putting a plastic bag over this dimwit commie's head? Just to show everyone what kind of bag he means, mind you.
exactly. I also don’t recycle. The city gave us these huge recycling bins. Mine is stored behind the house.
Here in Suffolk county ( which voted Trump in 16) they passed the plastic bill 2 years ago. You pay a nickel for every bag. Half to the country and half to the store. I got a hold of 5 real big canvas bags. Now they allow (now) free plastic fruit and meat bags. For sanitary purposes. So if your lucky you wont get blood on your canvas bags.
Order plastic bags from amazon.
