If the governor has his way, New Yorkers won't use plastic bags anymore.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is proposing a ban on plastic bags as part of this year's executive budget.
The effort is to combat litter because plastic bags do not biodegrade. Cuomo said Sunday that the ban will also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with plastic bag production and disposal - from the petroleum used to produce the bags to emissions from their transportation to landfills.
The governor said that reusable bags and exemptions will be applied "where appropriate."

I was asking the same question when the answer hit me - it’s so obvious!

“Calamexico is going to tax your drinking water”.
And I read that they want to tax texting, too.
Supermarkets should supply them to customers with a $100 deposit. When the customer returns, they get their $100 deposit back but then they have to put down another $100 deposit on another one before they leave the store. The customer can choose to bring their own but they will need to get it licensed by the state ($50 annual fee) and a sticker will be put on the cart accordingly to show the store that this is a licensed state-sanctioned basket.
If the customer does not return to the supermarket within 14 days, they lose their deposit and will either need to license the one they just "bought" or they need to suck it up and go to the store and pay another $100 for another cart.
I think this is the only logical way to go about this.
In NY, out of the 62 counties, only 13 counties voted for them. In the other 49 counties there aren't enough people to outnumber in those 13.
Well, those of us close to the border can shop in Pennsylvania.
Everything at bottom will be smashed, but thanks.
Andrew Cuomo isn’t biodegradable. Can we ban him?
Can’t wait to get one! They look so trendy!
How long before they MUST pass legislation to deal with reusable bags that are contaminated?
How long before these same loonies are trying to ban reusable bags?
Soon New Yorkers will have to start carrying large reusable tote bags around with them all day in case they want to stop off at the grocery store on their way home — in addition, of course, to carrying their handbags, briefcases, laptops, i-phones, and the occasional umbrella.
What are people supposed to do?..................
“We expect you to die, Mr. Citizen.”
“Paper bags are 100% biodegradable.”
They also come from a renewable resource.
You can get regular plastic grocery bags online from places such as Amazon; they're pretty cheap, and of course they have a thousand uses.
Instead of one large bin, make it four smaller bins that are stackable on the carrier, and interlocking. If this bag lunacy spreads, there might be some money in it.
By the way, there are people who load the loose groceries back into the cart, take it the car and unload it into the car. Grocery bags aren’t a necessity. I mean, if it saves even one bag...
As do many of us.
In the meantime, I will be saving every plastic bag I get when I go shopping.
They make great trash bags for our small waste baskets.
And they are perfect for stuffing dirty clothes or sneakers into so the dirt doesn't get all over the car.
What are people supposed to do?..................
starve
He says he’s not running but he is certainly acting like he is. After 15 years trying to build up his centrist bona fides, he has read the Democratic Primary prevailing winds, and is running like a screeching loon to the left, where he feels more naturally at home.
not quite. one city outvotes the rest of the state. we are perpetually screwed.
