I think this is his best strategy to get going on the wall and to stop the media onslaught that is gearing up to portray him as killing off 25% of the federal workforce.
It is now proven that Pelosi won’t budge, that’s good enough to be the rationale for calling on emergency powers.

Yes, BUILD THE DAMN WALL AND THE SOONER THE BETTER.
POTUS Trump is a unique president. Because of following reasons:
>> Trump is a rare politician who actually tries hard to keep campaign promises. Career politicians give speeches which sound great but then vote as directed by their donor class.
>> Trump is richer than all previous 44 presidents combined.
>> Trump has signed more paychecks on the FRONT than all previous 44 presidents combined.
>> Trump is not a hostage to his ultra rich donors. Career politicians must comply with wishes of their mega-donors or they lose elections due to lack of campaign cash.
>> Trump has done business with more people all over the world than all previous 44 presidents combined. With that many dealings, it is easy for any witch hunt prosecutor to find some people who have not followed the law. I have not seen anything in those indictments with direct involvement by Trump. For example Manafort charges are all before he signed up with the Trump campaign. What Cohen is charged with has nothing to do with Trump directly.

President Trump ought to bring up that Pelosi and Schumer approved 500 million of American taxpayer dollars funding a 287 mile border wall last year in Jordan.
I think he's close to declaring a national security crisis and will use funds from the DOD to build the wall.
His Oval Office speech, his abrupt walkout on the resistant democRAT leadership and his visit today to the border in Texas, are just teeing-up that choice.
They just want his head on a platter as a FReeper wrote on another thread. They don't want to do anything that would make Trump look good.
But if he does go this route, forget the steel "fence" because it was just an overture to the democRATS for them to give him the $5 billion. Besides, I read yesterday that most of the steel would have to come from China, given our depleted steel industry. Also read this morning that a test steel prototype was sawed through.
Build a real wall with concrete that will stop the illegal invaders or at least slow them down enough for the Border Patrol to do a proper job in apprehending and processing them.
And forget the $5 billion. If he's going to make this choice and by-pass Congress, go for the whole $21 billion+ it's estimated will be needed to build the whole thing out of concrete. Get if from the money the DOD turns back over to the Treasury for not spending it in their budget fast enough.
Forget the steel fence. Go for the concrete barrier like the Israelis built. It has proven almost 100% effective in keeping terrorists out.

what an opening line, they managed to get TWO digs in: 1) He did not want to take, this was leaked from an off the record meeting. Even the corrupt media no longer respects Trump when it's off the record. Major Garrett said the same thing this morning...basically because it has leaked, I can now say Trump said this... Notice how they use the same strategy as the Dossier; it gets leaked so they use that source to confirm and provide rationale to tap Trump, all based on substantiation coming from a leak. 2) Dems say the wall is unnecessary - media pronounces that as fact.

He should tell the Dems he’s going to build the whole thing with a Declaration of National Emergency OR they can give him the 5 billion he’s requesting.
Trump should NOT declare a national emergency to build the wall.
He has the winning hand on the government shutdown which is the Only way to get the wall started. If he caves by reopening the gov”t the Dems will claim victory (which it will be), and stop him (and the American people) from building a wall in the courts.
