Trump should NOT declare a national emergency to build the wall.
He has the winning hand on the government shutdown which is the Only way to get the wall started. If he caves by reopening the gov”t the Dems will claim victory (which it will be), and stop him (and the American people) from building a wall in the courts.
He could really force Congress’s hand:
1. Declare a National Emergency and start building the wall right now.
2. Tell Congress that he will veto any bills to reopen the government until the wall is fully built, OR if Congress passes a bill with full funding for the wall, whichever comes first.
The timing of the end of the shutdown would totally be in Chuck and Nancy’s hands. They can either fully fund the wall now and reopen the government, or sit around with the government closed and watch the wall being built a section at a time with the government closed. Their choice.
He absolutely should because if he doesn’t that wall IS NOT EVER going
