Somewhat lost in the shuffle of the intertwined shutdown and immigration dramas this week was yet another significant indication that former Vice President Joe Biden is leaning heavily toward doing something he opted out of last cycle: Mounting his third bid for the presidency. We recently noted Biden's carefully-calibrated moves designed to avoid certain errors and pitfalls that helped sink Hillary Clinton (the details for that piece were almost certainly leaked into the open by Bidenworld), and now another insight into Biden's timing and thinking has miraculously ended up in the pages of the New York Times. Nothing's settled until it's official, but it sure sounds like he's planning to go for it:

I think Biden is correct.
The current GOP establishment would rather lose than give Trump strong support.
Biden represents mainstream big business interests, while Trump scares them.
For example, Biden would heed military/industrial calls for more war.
Biden would heed calls for continues cheap labor.
He is their strongest possible candidate, and he would have won in 2016.
Ah, so after 10 years of thinking about it, Biden is finally poised to decide if he wants to be President. Imagine this mental slow poke getting the famed 3am call about some crisis. “I’m going to form a committee and explore all the options for the next decade and then I’ll be ready to let you know exactly when I’ll be able to decide. Until then, hang tough.”
Biden is 76 now.
He’d be 78 if he got elected President.
Pelosi’s dementia is making Americans wary of older politicians.
Maybe RBG will retire and join him as his VP.
Biden is looking like he has acquired a mean streak in him. It is the hate and anger that America is fed up with. When Biden tries to out-Trump Trump, it just does not come out right:
American values are “being shredded by a president who’s all about himself. It’s all about Donald,” Biden said.
Wrong! The fact is, PDJT is all about Americans and the America they want their children to have. Biden is tone deaf about what real American want.
It’s tough to beat an incumbent president seeking re-election.
Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton did it, but in those cases, the incumbent was weak.
Not so with Trump.
