Days before he officially becomes a U.S. senator, Mitt Romney took to the Washington Post to fire a shot across President Trump’s bow, saying Mr. Trump had made a “deep descent” in December and is hurting the national character.
In an op-ed column published online Tuesday evening, Mr. Romney, now a Republican senator-elect for Utah, came down hardest on recent moves in foreign policy and Cabinet positions related to that.
“After he became the nominee, I hoped his campaign would refrain from resentment and name-calling. It did not. When he won the election, I hoped he would rise to the occasion. His early appointments of Rex Tillerson, Jeff Sessions, Nikki Haley, Gary Cohn, H.R. McMaster, Kelly and Mattis were encouraging. But, on balance, his conduct over the past two years, particularly his actions this month, is evidence that the president has not risen to the mantle of the office,” he wrote.

Mitt Romney stands for NOTHING. He is a guy desperate for relevance. He will say whatever he thinks the “in” crowd wants to hear. He reminds me of that toady in high school trying to please the crowd but who has no sense of himself.
His sole reason for wanting to get elected was to do just this. Write op-eds and be the darling of the cocktail circuit. If he thought it would make him popular, Mitt would allow himself to have pies thrown in his face and be given atomic wedgies. Then, he would tell everyone that accepting abuse is “Presidential.” And what is worst of all is that we all knew this and could see it coming.
His father was the same, by the way, and stabbed Goldwater in the back.
A Jeff Flake with a prettier face. He'll cause Trump the same problems Flake did in the GOP Senate majority.
I've hated him since he came out with his unprovoked attacked on Trump during the campaign. There was not need for it. It was petty and ugly. It made him look bad, especially after Trump won the election.
He's pining to be president by way of the Senate, after he failed miserably by way of being governor of Massachusetts.
The old school Republicans don't like Trump at all. They think they represent the Republican Party and Trump tarnishes the party and the presidency itself.
What Romney doesn't grasp is that the old Republican Party is dying and the new party is the one of Trump deplorables.

And yes, I love our brother and sister FReepers but in love I call them out when they blame the group for the acts of the individual. The Mormons I know are wonderful people, conservative, and very, very generous to those less fortunate even when they aren’t all that fortunate either.
