Earths Magnetic Field Decaying at an Alarming Rate
December 11, 2018 | David F. Coppedge
The biosphere depends on earths magnetic field, but it has been decaying rapidly for at least 1500 years.
In Spacecraft Earth: A Guide for Passengers, Dr Henry Richter describes how the story of the decay of the earths magnetic field caught his attention. He had read the monograph by Dr Thomas Barnes in the 1970s, and realized the implications: if the decay is true, the earth could not be billions of years old. He considered the various proposals for maintaining the field, but none of them work, he concluded. If this is a well-known fact, what do secular geophysicists have to say about it?

These are the ways to accomplish that:

I’m glad someone discovered this. It explains why my pants are still tight yet I’m losing weight.
No science yet that positively identifies the source of Earth’s magnetic field. Amazing that we really don’t know. I know that planetary scientists are trying to ID planetoids that have magnetic fields.
They tend toward being habitable.
Earth’s magnetic field reverses shortly after our sun’s position in the galactic equatorial plane changes. We are due for a reversal of the magnetic field due to a recent crossing of said galactic plane.
What’s more likely to flip: the magnetic field of the entire galaxy, or the magnetic field of one tiny little rock that’s tied to a tiny little star on the outskirts of the galaxy?
Before a magnetic field can build up in one direction, the field in the opposite direction has to decay.
This has happened many times before, and will happen many more times until the earth’s core is no longer liquid, the sun stops travelling through the galactic equatorial plane, or the galaxy explodes...
Will driving around in my SUV help any?
As you correctly point out, the Earth’s magnetic field flips. The reverse in polarity is about 140,000 years overdue. Past reverses in the Earth’s magnetic field have not indicated mass extinction events. So no need to plan for doomsday (on account of magnetic reversal) or to tax it.
Save the Electrons!
Good gosh. One can only come to the conclusion these people want everyone running around in a constant state of breathless fear.
Well, I won’t. When my compass stops working and begins going around in circles, I’ll worry.
Ditto with all the studies about coffee, wine, butter, sleep, you name it. People managed to live for thousands of years without losing their minds over things like that...
Absolutely nothing.
You’re assuming there would still be any people and animals around here to be affected by the time the field decayed to that point.
A serious question: could this be related to the reduced sun spot activity? Or is it just a coincidence?
Backup plan?
Magnetic fields are produced by moving charges. Some ferrous material in the earth’s core?
Or maybe it is a reaction to, and produced by, the sun’s sunspot activity. Every time there is a sunspot it ejects charged particles that encounters the earths atmosphere inducing a magnetic field. This is DHS12345 theory. :)
Gen 6:13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence, through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
Sparklite2, it's not that man isn't sufficiently in awe of God. But scripture records that the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. Not learning what God expects and just doing your own thing, tends to lead to really bad decisions. And eventually God feels the duty to end the injustices.
Theorize away! Science belongs to amateurs, and history bears that out.
I’ve seen your theory expressed in other places. To me, makes sense. What pisses me off and perplexes me - how come someone doesn’t design an experiment to see if this is true?
I’d love for it to be true. Imagine the possibilities.
It’s the tech effect.
and “models”!!!
>>The biosphere depends on earths magnetic field, but it has been decaying rapidly for at least 1500 years.
Anything that’s been ongoing for 1500 years isn’t “rapid”
This is scary! Are all the things going to fall off my fridge?
Oooo I love this question! They’ll drown in their think tanks....
You forgot one. Minimizing cow burps. Seriously. There is a vaccine on the horizon to curtail this... That should make everything better.
