Fifteen years ago in California, a tall technology geek named Steve Mushero started writing a book that predicted the American dream might soon “be found only in China.” Before long, Mr. Mushero moved himself to Shanghai and launched a firm that Amazon.com Inc. and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. certified as a partner to serve the world’s biggest internet market.
These days, the tech pioneer has hit a wall. He’s heading back to Silicon Valley where he sees deeper demand for his know-how in cloud computing. “The future’s not here,” said the 52-year-old.

This confrontation, I refuse to call it a trade war, by Trump is going to take time. It took a long time to get to where we are.
Extended Family members have been working in Singapore for over 20 years in Cell Phone businesses.
They move back to the USA for exactly this reason.
They loved it there but the business opportunities have dried up.
A pity that they can’t be required to remain there. They had no interest in America when they left. Let them be Citizens of the World outside our borders.
The dumbasses didn’t think the rules would apply to them, much like how Liberals and the Left don’t think the rules should apply to them.
The only thing China had going for it was cheap labor. That’s going away, and now they have nothing. Sure, their IQ is a little higher than ours, but 106 IQ sucks, and that’s what they have. In the U.S., it is the people with 130 and up that make things run. China does not have those people.
In this age of global communication, the Chinese Millennials will not tolerate the oppression their parents did. There will be a big change in the Chinese political world.
Americans who went to China were by the vast majority, young, individualist and pioneers looking for opportunity and to earn money. I know many. They were not “selling secrets,” they were not helping Communists. Many worked to establish American offices selling US products there.
Most learned that even with a supposedly reforming China, the Communist Party and its vast control network are never more than 1-2 steps away.
The idea they were somehow traitors is simplistic and ridiculous.

It’s tempting to mock your post, but ... yeah. I suspect that they do have some smarter then your average bear people. They probably keep them nailed down firmly, though.

As for the millennials, I’ll believe it when I see it. Given that their military is complaining about a lack of viable recruits due to video games and (...), they sound about as worthless as our crop of millennials.
I suspect the only change both groups will see is as the velvet shackles slowly turn to steel, and by the time they realize it, it will be much too late.

I’ve worked in China, and of course, the USA.
Government harassment, taxes, unknown fees, cronyism, needing political connections to navigate a vast bureaucracy is a fact of life for business in China.
Its not as bad in the USA, but our government is heading in the same direction. Our small company just paid $75,000 in legal fees and travel to specialized lawyers at the center of the empire in DC to try and understand a recent FDA regulation and government verification process which are both simply nonsensical. I foresee more such expenses in the future. Our vast permanent, statist bureaucracy is merely more subtle about it than they are.
China, like Japan and most other Asian nations doesn’t want any foreigners there. You’ve never seen true racism unless you’ve been to those places. They will tolerate your tourist dollars. But they don’t want you moving there.
But heaven forbid if Poland dares tell the EU they don’t want any Muslims in their country.
