(Meredith) -- In honor of former President George H.W. Bush's funeral, the U.S. Postal Service says regular mail deliveries will be suspended on Wednesday.
The Postal Service will continue some delivery services in preparation for the holiday season.
"We will provide limited package delivery service on that day to ensure that our network remains fluid and we do not experience any impacts to our package delivery operations that might negatively affect our customers or business partners during the remainder of our busy holiday season, " the Postal Service said in a statement.

Aye, ‘tis true...watching the evolution of a thread.
Natural selection or a higher power?!

Oh, so you admit there ARE legitimate reasons for employees to have days off?
Huzzah!
And, the momentum happened way back when Harry S Truman died (you know him, right? He used the A-bomb and saved Western Civ?) and carried on through Ike, JFK, LBJ, Reagan, etc.
I dunno ‘bout you, but the way I see it...a holiday tradition that started with Truman and Ike seems well enough established that I’d call it the norm, nicht war?

I had to drive 40 miles for 6 months to get my mail 5 years ago when the post office was closed. Now I have to drive almost 40 miles in the opposite direction to get my mail. This has been going on over 7 months this time. There were 17 hostile workplace complaints filed against the postmaster in charge which they seemed to ignore so not much is being done.
Couple non-standard reaction going on over the late Bush....WH flag at half-mast for 30 days, stock market shut down on a week day.....about the only standard deal in the whole thing is that the post office doesn’t want to do its job....
Since the President designated it so. Take it up with Trump.
He was one of those young men who helped assure that my own father would come home alive.
I am ready to put a red flag on my recycle can, park it next to the mailbox, and put a padlock on the box with a little letter slot, everything else goes into the recycle can. No sense handling more then once.
I always laugh when Veterans Day comes along. All govt. offices have the day off while all the veterans in the private sector still have to work.........That's real gratitude

Why?
This is standard procedure. USPS shut down for Ford and Reagan.
The USPS has a contract with Amazon where they do Sunday/holiday package deliveries. I suspect that suspending regular service on Wed will result in them doing Amazon deliveries instead (for more money)
There’s a link on their website that said it was because the Pres ordered it.
I guess I would say that it’s a shallow, cranky thinker who doesn’t see the difference between being ‘for’ a long-held tradition of honor and respect toward office and service, and being ‘for’ a specific personality in every minute aspect of his life.
Bush did it for Reagan’s death.
I think its stupid. Feels Soviet.
The whole point to the idea of a ‘President’ in a representative republic is that he’s NOT a king. He’s just a man willing to do the job who was voted into office by the electoral college.
Everybody back to work.
I’ll tell you who will be on the job, state and local law enforcement looking to pad the police retirement fund by gigging speeders. Like flies out there.
I had the same feeling when I read that they removed the seats in Air Force One to place the casket in the passenger space instead of the cargo.
Aye, tis true...watching the evolution of a thread.
It's only true because you and one or two others have brought up Jesus and religion when discussing why they're paying postal workers not to deliver the mail because a president died.
Huh? You must live in some time warp of the year 1955.
Do you still feel John Roberts did a decent and honorable job on Obamacare?
LOL
