News broke on Tuesday that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had hired long-time "Never Trumper" and former Wall Street Journal editorial writer Mary Kissel as senior adviser for policy and strategic messaging. Thats right, a "Never Trumper" who vehemently opposed the policies Trump campaigned on is now advising Trump's secretary of state on policy.
This should seem like an oxymoron, a strange coincidence, or an unbelievable stroke of luck on the part of Kissel. Sadly, for Trump supporters, its not.
Hiring critics and firing loyalists is business as usual for the Trump administration. The outsider candidate who successfully campaigned against the Republican establishment, the neocons, the Bush administration, and the permanent political class has filled his administration with the same swamp creatures he promised to drain.

Is that what they call it in the hole you crawled out of ?
Good to hear from you moses. When I listen these days, its to the excellent podcasts, which are often available within minutes of each hour’s segment, and important don’t include most of the ad breaks!
John’s a funny bird, but always entertaining and with guests like Steve Moore, Larry Kudlow and Sebastian Gorka, just derned interesting.
The thing about Mary Kissel is that she is very intelligent. That’s a good sign as to ability to adjust her attitudes to a WINNING approach. And her personality (in my opinion) is not one to run a revolution against her employers. She’ll be an asset.
She was a horror show as a regular on the John Batchlor radio show leading up to the election.
She’s still aboard the open borders cheap labor express that the WSJ has always pushed, is she not?
Sometimes one wonders if the whole damn thing is being run by George Soros!
Come on Trump, we’re looking for more to expose these creeps and drain the f’n swamp.
The question is: will she faithfully execute the policies of her employers. And that is much more a question of personal ethics than personal philosophy on policy. A bad person will subvert your department even if they agree with you. A “good” person will not subvert your agenda. Essentially everyone in her class spouts the free-traitor line, but some are smart enough and ethical enough to rise above it and I’m hoping she’s one of them. I can only go by the change in Batchelor’s rhetoric over the last three years and the fact that he and she seemed very compatible and friendly in their philosophies. And I’m more likely to think that Pompeo knows what he’s doing than to think that she can trick the entire administration. Some of the original never-trumpers are coming along and some are not. Not all of them are recalcitrant but almost none of them will just say “I was full of shit and not nearly as smart as I wanted you to think.” They have to come along slowly in little steps. Some of them will be of good service. The alternative is that there is nobody to hire who has any experience, education and training. It might work to hire smart people who think the right way but have no training; Trump has done some of that, but I don’t think he’s putting all of his eggs in that strategy basket.
Graham is still committed to the Bush Plan for North Mexico and opposed to stopping the Cheap Labor Express.
He’s still for amnesty for illegal aliens and their employers.
Do not be fooled.
He’s running for re-election.
It’s the McCain two-step.
Two years appearing to be on the side of the citizens and four years of acting like an amnesty whore.
Nope. Not buying it. They had the GOPe goons keeping actual Trump supporters out of the admin from the start. They need to load up on true believers ahead of non-MAGA careerists.
I never know quite what to think of Pompeo.
Could be. So, how did she manage to trick Pompeo? Or, how did Pompeo manage to trick Trump, or how did Trump manage to trick us?
Oh. He managed to beat Clinton when hardly anyone thought it possible (I did). He only appointed - and stuck with - two SC justices that aren’t perfect but let’s say 1% impure versus 90% horrible such as Clinton would have appointed.
I conclude that Trump isn’t tricking us. I perceive that he’s really intelligent so I don’t think he selected a fool in Pompeo.
Got to go by the big picture FRiend.
NObody is infallible and the biggest mistake Trump has made by far is in bringing far too many Never Trumpers into his admin.
Surely you haven’t missed that big picture?
“But you all just go on second guessing from your La-Z-Boys, thanks for playing. The adults will continue to run things.”
So says the “Trust Sessions” qook. Sorry, your credibility is shot. Go back to playing in mom’s basement.
I have listened to John Batchelor for years. Love the show. During the campaign Mary Kissell was extremely snarky and negative towards Candidate Trump. I would turn it off when she was on, I hated her sarcasm and tone towards Candidate Trump. Of course after the election, she has completely changed her tune. She is a smart lady, I will give her that, but I don’t trust her.
Well said, I have the same thoughts abt her.
A clue?
Ooooppps! Batchelor’s time slot on WLS WAS 9pm till midnight. Then WLS gave motor mouth Shapiro an hour of John’s time slot from 9pm till 10pm. If Levin followed by Joe Pags aren’t bumped by sports locally .I pick both up locally then switch over to WLS at 10pm. If bumped I switch to WLS and get Levin Shapiro and Batchelor shows.

We know much less about the woman and her current status as far as doing her job to help Pompeo support Trump than they do...and the word "adviser" has it's own implications - it's a subordinate role to the one asking the questions.....perhaps they want someone who will be really stringent to avid pitfalls....
a “NEVERTRUMPER” who might have great respect for Pompeo for all we know.
If obummer had (for some absurd reason) appointed someone to a position of power that I admired and who shared my views, I would have worked for him.
Scarily, MANY NEVERTRUMPERS call themselves conservatives
Yepper - it takes all kinds to make the world go round and we have a sampling right here....
Point taken. But I have more time exposed to Kissel’s thoughts than any job interview would glean. She was/is a prolific writer and often talking head on cable. She is still a never Trumper and always will be. Pompeo is hopefully aware and will ignore her when appropriate.
