Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the incoming U.S. representative from New York City, has an idea that could make voting easier: Take Columbus Day off the federal holiday list and replace it with Election Day.
In a tweet Saturday, the progressive Democrat wondered why Columbus Day is a federal holiday while Election Day, when we engage in perhaps our most important civic duty, is not.
Columbus Day, after all, celebrates a man who never actually set foot in what is now the United States and who certainly did not “discover” America.
Daily Mail editor David Martosko tried to make a joke about Ocasio-Cortez “angling for more vacation days” before even beginning her new job.

Schools are closed, banks are usually closed and most of government usually shuts down, I would say yes.

So they want to change the date believing spring or summer, or early fall would be better. They offer no proof of this but it's not about proof it's about questioning and then undermining traditions.
Liberals believe there's a magical solution, a magical date where everyone will vote.
No change of date will satisfy them because the date of the election doesn't matter.
Somebody should suggest to her to fight to cancel the Puerto Rican day parade, and replace it with the “undocumented immigrants day parade”. Let’s see where her loyalty lies.
Also have her replace “Columbus Day” with “minorities day parade”. (Wonder who would show up, since, everybody is in a minority nowadays).
I have friends in NJ who never mentioned Yom Kippur being a state holiday and any banks closing or even most government offices across the state..

The problem with that is it would be mostly government employees getting the day off. And they tend to vote Rat.
I am with Lars Larson on this, open the polling places for 24 hours, no vote by mail, and everybody must show their voter registration and ID.

The ONLY reason to approve paid holiday for Election Day is to impose federal standards throughout the country, IOW, VoterID required for all federal offices, and all ballots rec'd by a specific deadline, no later than 11:59:59 PM on election day.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is being hailed as the new face of the Democratic Party after vanquishing Queens party boss Joe Crowley in Tuesday’s primary, but one former co-worker isn’t jumping on her bandwagon.
Most of the staff at Flats Fix, the East 16th Street taco and tequila bar, say nice things about Sandy, as they knew her for the four years she worked there, until she quit six months ago to run for Congress.
But one waitress has a bad memory of working with Ocasio-Cortez, 28, as Ocasio-Cortez tended bar during the very busy Cinco de Mayo celebration in 2017.
At the end of the night, when it came time to split the $560 in tips she had gotten at the bar, Ocasio-Cortez gave the waitress only $50. After the waitress complained to her manager, her take was doubled to $100, a source said.
“It says so much about her character,” said my source. “From that point on, I wouldn’t talk to her. I couldn’t look at her.”
Ocasio-Cortez couldn’t be reached for comment.

If they do a three day weekend with Election Day as the day “off,” you’ll get fewer voters because they’ll take the vacation day off and ignore voting.

I live close to Lakewood, everything shuts down for Yom Kippur
Businesses, schools, local government, I am not 100% sure about the state though, since I would never notice when it is shut down. Trenton is 100% useless as it is
