The Justice Department responded to CNN's lawsuit over the revocation of Jim Acosta's press pass on Wednesday, saying in a court filing that the White House rejects the idea that it can't pick and choose which journalists can be given a permanent pass to cover it. "The President and White House possess the same broad discretion to regulate access to the White House for journalists (and other members of the public) that they possess to select which journalists receive interviews, or which journalists they acknowledge at press conferences," lawyers say in the filing.
Both CNN and Acosta are plaintiffs. The suit alleges that their First and Fifth Amendment rights are being violated by the ban.
Judge Timothy J. Kelly, a Trump appointee, has scheduled a hearing for Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Fox News is filing an amicus brief in support of CNN after the Acosta incident. Those are big media corporations sponsored by oligarchs—not the “press” as discussed by our nation’s founding fathers. The press was for common Americans to honestly inform their countrymen about bad deeds done by oligarchs and actions that needed to be taken to protect themselves—not for propagandizing against the population in favor of oligarchs.

Has that been posted as a thread here at FR?
It sure needs to be
I expect you would walk meekly into the arena and be eaten by the lions with no complaint
I have a whole new and very low opinion of Ted Olson!
Agree!
Sorry no idea what you mean. I would have ignored Accosta. I dont like confrontations And if i were a journalist I would be respectful of potus.
If he can’t, then I want a press pass too.
Can’t have it both ways, CNN.
Either everybody is entitled to one or it is a privilege that can be awarded or revoked at-will.
I haven’t seen it posted elsewhere - yet. I’ll do a famous FreeRepublic search and then maybe we’ll see!
Nope - I didn’t see it posted as its own thread but I did see four other threads that mention it, including the thread mentioned in familyop’s #42.

Trump does not even need to hold a physical press conference.
He can decide to not hold press conferences. He can grant private interviews to selected reporters. He can even just say what he feels like saying on the White House web site or on his twitter feed.
0 didn’t hold pressers for months at a time.
Napolitano is not hearing the case, so should STFU and let the judge who is do his job.
Avoiding confrontations is cowardice that allows the bad guys to throw you to the lions
Ok so now I am a coward. At least I am a polite one. Leave it at that.
My husband would be standing beside me in that arena.
I know a lot of people with an “evil college degree” who go to work every day saying, “Can I take your order please?”
In the Obama White House, all questions to President Obama from the White Hut Press Corps had to be pre-approved before they could be asked.
No impromptu questions to President Obama were even allowed.
President Trump does npt require this of the press. Instead he expects respectful , professional civil discourse and respect, instead of controlling all the questions like Obama did.
Which would you expect in a Free Country that emanates the fruits of liberty, the Obama control or Trump freedom and responsibility?
CNN is going to lose this case. Bigly.
I have a vague memory of Zero being asked a question at a press conference that was surprisingly direct or uncomfortable for him in some manner and the other reporters (who were tossing their usual softball questions) were agitated and literally chased after the reporter across the Mall...anybody have a memory of this? It was like “how DARE you speak to him that way!”
#17. CNN reportedly has 50 of their reporters with White House Press passes. Acosta is their spearhead to go after Trump.
If I were Trump, I would have his passes and security clearance suspended for two months, and then he would only get them back on a Probationary status if he signed an agreement to behave like a professional, not be rude or interruptive, and make a public apology to the female intern he hit.
IF he violated that agreement, then ALL CNN reporters would be banned from the White House. They could stand in front of it and howl at the moon.
When I got my press pass in DC, I had to agree to abide by the conditions that the DC PD set for getting it. I didn’t have any problems with it.
The same for Pentagon and Congressional press passes. You agree to a certain code of conduct and there is no problem. Become a liberal prick and there are. That’s life.
If you don’t want to be a reporter any more, get a job as a DC Pimp. There’s plenty of openings for that now that the Dems control the house.
