Queens residents are outraged at Amazons plans to build part of its second headquarters in Long Island City, according to Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The Democratic Socialist, who cruised to victory in the midterm elections after beating Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens) in an upset primary win in June, fired off a series of tweets Monday night into Tuesday regarding the blockbuster plans.
Weve been getting calls and outreach from Queens residents all day about this. The communitys response? Outrage, Ocasio-Cortez, who officially takes office in January, tweeted.
The 29-year-old went on to say: Amazon is a billion-dollar company. The idea that it will receive hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks at a time when our subway is crumbling and our communities need MORE investment, not less, is extremely concerning to residents here.

I’m sure a check to cover her rent will eliminate that concern
Who cares about those greedy jobs. . . . .
What is the point of a shipping company moving to Long Island?
It’s on the wrong side of NYC for interfacing efficiently using surface transport with the rest of the country/continent.
As it becomes questionable whether Pelosi will capture the Speaker role, she might consider seducing the bartender into joining forces with her; that she would invest her political assets and prep her for the Speaker role.
Yes she has.
So has DeBlasio, who posted meaningless Amazon platitudes on his Twitter.
The comments were scathing from New Yorkers.
This will only further stressed a distressed subway system and drive housing prices even higher.
In VA, too.
Both terrible locations...but Bezos has houses in both locations, so there’s that...
It’s nuts. I can’t see any rational business reason for locating in anti-business locations. Just politics and pork barrel incentives. Amazon will face start up problems at these sites as well as long term issues. Of all the top 20 options, they picked the worst IMO.
Come on, speak up.......
Oh never mind there are no NY Republicans in any position of power who could made the deal. So I guess the Libs stole from the workers again Der Kommissar. Who keeps voting in the enemys of the workers Der Kommissar?

Does the dimwit on the short bus understand all the jobs and tax income that will come from all these jobs?
Guess not. Sheesh. Talk about an Affirmative Action elected idjit.
Why should we care what a federal representative has to say about local tax breaks?
Doe she care what the local city councilmen think about federal budgets?
As in: “If Maxine Waters had a daughter...?
Agreed.
Would the courts entertain a case if another business sued NYS, claiming unequal protection of the laws?
I doubt it. NY pols of both parties give out tax credits like I gave candy to trick or treaters on Halloween. If what you suggest were possible too many businesses in NY would have gone that route years ago.
she is funny like the dude says guam gonna tip over
re: She has a point. Blind pigs and acorns and all that.
