Breaking: @joyent, Gabs new hosting provider, has just pulled our hosting service. They have given us until 9am on Monday to find a solution. Gab will likely be down for weeks because of this. Working on solutions. We will never give up on defending free speech for all people.
(Excerpt) Read more at twitter.com ...
What a bizarrely limited view of free speech that is.
The Internet is saturated with porn. Why would it matter if it’s on a social media site as well? Twitter is covered in porn too, but they don’t get de-platformed.
What they’re trying to get rid of are spaces for public discussion out of left-wing control, and Gab was the most promising of the populist alternatives to Big Tech.
...and what happens if the bank representing the payor and/or the payee refuses to honor that check? There are chokepoints aplenty that can be formed and used by the forces of evil in this nation.
Hello 1984.
In addition to all the things you don’t like, Gab was an important networking ground for regular conservatives who have been systematically banned from or harassed off of Twitter.
The very effective NPC meme gained much of its momentum there.
That's next.
Big Government with its high tech crony companies is a dangerous monopoly far different and far worse than what we saw early last century.
The sad thing is that Gab acted completely responsibly. They immediately locked down the guy's account, archived all of his posts, and notified law enforcement.
And then PayPal comes along and pulls the financial plug, essentially shutting them down.
And tomorrow is Sunday which businesses will be closed. This was planned.
You mean like Twitter and Facebook provide their own hosting? Which they don’t... They run on Oracle ExaData servers hosted in AWS. (Or Google CP). All Facebook does is buy capacity by the rack, using its own customized servers.
To suggest Gab doesn’t deserve equal treatment because you don’t find it interesting is silly
Look, I’d like to see a viable open forum but Gab was not. No one used it. I bet 99% of Americans never heard of it. And it was .ai, not even American domain (or server?).
Do you have any idea what's been going on today?
You are very ignorant of what is at stake here.
“if they cant host themselves they are not really viable...”
What is involved in hosting one’s self?
I plan to open a site and just assumed that a hosting service was the way to go.
Maybe a link to an article of it’s complicated?
I wonder if one can develop a shortwave network for data transfer...a sort of internet of the air....
Gab has (had?) well over half a million users. A lot of people have heard of it, especially on the conservative side where people needed alternatives.
I used it. Others here, as you can see, also used it.
It is 100% American. They just recently switched to gab.com, probably had to buy the name from a domain squatter expensively.
And what does that have to do with Gab? Tell me, the post and thread explain none of that, which was the reason for the question. Saying they are shut down effective 9 a.m. Monday does’t say WHY. Were they associated with the Pittsburgh shooter? The Florida bomber?
No, it's not.
Can you start your own cellular company? Your own TV station?
You have to pray to some porcelain liberal god somewhere.
You sound like a leftist plant.
T1 line?? Lol!
