President Donald Trump said he plans on bringing out the military to stop the thousands of people in the migrant caravan headed to our border.
Another report stated that Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis is expected to sign deployment orders as soon as Thursday that could send 800 or more troops to the border.
Trump has repeated threats to send the military to the border to defend it against the mostly Honduran migrants who continue to march to the border. The number of people within the caravan has fluctuated, but USA Today reported that the Mexican government has determined the number has fallen to 4,500 as people have either stopped or asked for asylum in Mexico:
Mexicos Interior Ministry said immigration officials have received 1,699 asylum claims, while 495 Hondurans have asked to be returned to their country of origin. The Central American migrants come mostly from Honduras but also includes those from Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala. The status of about 500 other migrants is unclear. United Nation officials estimated Monday there were more than 7,200 migrants in the caravan.

Arm the troops so they may protect themselves.
As noted in an earlier thread on the topic, in my opinion, this is a pathetic joke that will, like last time, simply result in 97% of the border crossers getting caught-and-released. This is not what was promised!!! Put thousands on the border, close and secure it!!!
In a rational world you would not have to presume they wouldn’t be armed.
That number should be 8000 not 800
Does it make a difference that Mattis is saying Trump is sending 800?
800????????????????????
80,000 would be more like it and much safer.
With only 800 it is worth their risk to crash the border.
With 80,000 it would be an insurmountable force.
The 800 is just an advance party to prepare for the deployment of many thousands more troops, likely 8-10K.
They should send all the JAG officers the can find and make them Administrative Judges to help with the claims. If they are denied load them up on a plane and when its full fly them home (after they have been photographed and fingerprinted)
The article fails to mention the two other caravans on the march now.
The ones returning to their country o the buses are primarily women with children who are getting sick...and other adults sick or exhausted.
They’re going to have a rough time with the Heat in mexico...once they start dropping like flies you can be sure they’ll be ‘rescued’.......
As long as they’re in mexico they’re basically mexicos problem......keeping them out of the USA is ours. If they get just one foot in the US they will have achieved their goal no matter how or what happens once they’re here....they’ve hit the ‘safe zone’.
Will they actually shoot if needed or are we sending the LGBT battalion down there to hand out flowers?
If the wall was in place, we wouldn’t need the troops.
President Trump swore an oath to protect our borders.
An Act of Love.......for America.
There should be five times as many troops as there are in the caravan.
Clearly Mattis, the tranny lover, is showing the world a kinder, gentler army.
“The 800 is just an advance party”
Even they could not deploy until there was confidence in the Intel about where along the border the caravan planned to cross.
When the family separation issue was hot earlier this year, the military was tasked to start planning capacity for a surge of detainees - tens of thousands.
By now they should have personnel and resources identified for such contingencies.
It still sounds like the military is going to reinforce Border Patrol with logistics - no indication yet of using troops to apprehend. But like you say, the advance party could get the bases set up for a larger element to quickly fall in on.
No he would not divulge how many troops. I would expect about 8,000 however not 800. This President does not give away his cards.
....If they don't help their own on the way they sure as heck won't be doing so if they make it here....
