Megyn Kelly has been taken off the air during 9am slot on NBC following blowback after she questioned the offensiveness of blackface, angering much of her audience and colleagues at the network.
CNNs Oliver Darcy, quoting Brian Stelter, (both noted media experts,) weighed in on the reports:
Kellys comments, which came during a discussion on offensive Halloween costumes, can be viewed below:
In Stelters report at CNN, he said that Kellys exit from the 9 a.m. hour of the Today show appears to be imminent, according to sources with knowledge of the matter. Kelly will not be hosting her program on Thursday, and she is unlikely to return later, one of the sources said. Friday episodes of her show are usually pre-taped.
So while Kelly will technically be hosting her show until the end of the week due to pre-tapings, itll exclude her starting next week. Yesterday, ahead of this news, Kelly parted with her talent agency CAA and hired attorney Bryan Freedman. The decision to retain a lawyer may signal a lengthy battle over her contract, which is reportedly valued at $23 million a year. She is in the middle of the second year of a three year contract, Stelter noted.
CBS also reported that Kellys show is in jeopardy this morning:
Kelly is just one year into her $69 million contract, and NBC must be regretting the blunder. The combined salaries of previous hosts Al Roker and Tamron Hall were less than half of Ms. Kellys $23 million-a-year payday, and Kelly has averaged 2.4 million viewers an episode, 18% below what they brought in.
Paying more for less is hardly a winning business strategy, and NBC has their hands tied. Do they waste more money on legal fees disputing her contract, or reposition her on another show, risking their ratings too? Given Kellys ratings, NBC was probably looking for a catalyst to take her off the air, but even then, theyre financially screwed.
Probably - but the ego takes a hit.
What about an nbc affiliate in Alaska.
I would love to be irrelevant and worth that much!
Who?
NBC = Comcast = American Enemy > Russia or Iran
Megan Kelly - coming soon to a podcast near you!
Next stop ... peddling kitsch on Home Shopping Network.
I do feel a tad sorry for Megyn. She made a remark about Halloween costumes that has somehow been taken to be an endorsement of minstrel shows. However, I do not feel sorry for NBC. The decision to hire talent from Fox News who built her name by appealing to conservatives was a big blunder. Megyn’s decision to try to make a big deal out of Trump’s “bleeding comments” was also a blunder. But I guess Megyn is actually a winner because she is looking at an awesome payday whatever happens.
Media tyranny
Its all black gay Hispanic Asian tranny or Jewish commie now
All some sort of aggrieved minorities tossed in with a turncoat conservative who really isnt like Nicole or Brooks
Maddiow covers multiple bases....Jewish lesbian female
Seems like homosexual black men are disproportionate popular
Its really unbelievable to watch these group tables where they rant ad hominem against Trump and all of us
They dont even try to hide it
Some of its ratings...FOX owns the right side of the audience so they scramble for the left side....CNN and MSNBC and the alphabets fight over half the population more of less
But alas the folks who run these outlets share the views of their hosts
Zucker does for sure
Lack..hes gone isnt he?
Phil Griffin
James Goldston
Les Moonves....gone
All these folks are Red diaper babies....especially Griffin of msnbc
And this is just networks
Look at print media
Exact same gene pool and education platform and family histories of often lefty wing or socialist tendencies
Small wonder this is our media today
Completely and utterly unbridled
We beat up sheppie and fox a bit here
Imagine it now without them and FBN
WHEW
Thats actually a good pic of her bod
Her face is too much for me
I like softer feminine face
Shopping her around? You mean like trafficking? Isnt this sort of treatment of women verboten, what with poundmetoo and all that?
I think Trump should offer her a job, that would be hilarious.
She won’t return to Fox. Burned a lot of bridges when she jumped to NBC. FNC is dominating the ratings; they have no place in their line-up and no desire to bring her back.
Buh-bye Megan. Enjoy spending more time with your family and living off that $60-million buyout.
I recall a critic last year saying that taking Kelly from a news anchor to a morning show was like trying to change a cut throat NY lawyer into Martha Stewart.
That photo says it all. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
I’ll never forget working as a TV Tech Director for the DNC in 2008 (a conservative planted within enemy headquarters). Megyn was obviously with Fox News at the time and her plain Jane assistant drove her up to the Fox suite in a golf cart. Of course, I was all drooly face at seeing her, in person. Her assistant - likely presuming I was just another libtard - gave me a really dirty look. I wanted to yell out “No! Not you. I think SHE’S hot!”. Poor Meeegyn. Now, nobody likes her.
