Why has the media and much of the political establishment made the presumed murder of an Islamist Saudi dissident on Turkish soil a defining issue in American foreign policy?
Jamal Khashoggi is not a U.S. citizen, despite his past residence in Virginia, nor is he a lover of liberty, despite his criticism of Saudi Arabias despotic regime. He previously served that regime as a mouthpiece for, and adviser to, the alleged al-Qaeda-tied Saudi intelligence leader Turki bin Faisal. Khashoggi mourned the death of Osama bin Laden, whom Khashoggi had been granted unusual levels of access for numerous interviews. Khashoggi was also an ardent proponent of political Islam and the Muslim Brotherhood.
Needless to say, one wonders why Khashoggi was permitted to enter the United States and handed a column at The Washington Post given this background, particularly at a time our media claims acute sensitivity to foreign influence. One also wonders why so many in the media are quick to fawn over such a figure given his regressive views.

Why? Because they have nothing else
I wonder what actionable intelligence the Saudis got off him during their interrogation?
Because he’s a JOURNALIST!!! Trump didn’t threaten to nuke SA, OMG, OMG /s
Did anyone ever think this guy was a Spy fro Iran?!Journalist is great cover and the Saudis whacked him
> I wonder what actionable intelligence the Saudis got off him during their interrogation?
I was thinking the same thing. And even the possibility that he sits alive rotting in a Saudi prison, between daily interrogations.
Meanwhile, in Mexico, they drop like flies and the neo-marxist left don’t care.
Why?
Simply because it cannot be used as a political weapon against POTUS Trump.
The only reason the MSM is harping on this, is to try to hurt president Trump.
But here and there people are starting to make the point that we need the Saudis in our fight against Iran and terrorism.
I am trying to understand this too.
The victim was not a US citizen. So why would Trump “punish” Saudi Arabia for committing a murder? China, Russia, Venezuela and many countries murder their own citizens each day and we still trade with them. It is not the job of the USA to police the world and ensure that every criminal is punished.
This seems more like a hit job on the Saudi Prince driven by the WashPo editors who seek blood revenge.
Because: The Media
Bezos! If he did not work for The Washington Post they would not care. The Post was going after Turkey. Turkey was able to distract attention with this story.
Here is some five year old data:

But it shows that life is much worse for journalists in other countries. Anyway, this is a no win situation for Trump. He needs to make it go to the back burner. At least until the election is over. Bezos will try to keep it on the front burner because its his story.
Coverup. For one. Clandestine asasination of a non-spy or military person, another. At an embassy no less.
Third we cannot have close allies doing this sh1t and lying about it. Especially to us if thy want to remain close allies.
All the Saudis need to do is to ask our people why we haven’t brought Hillary and her corrupt pals to justice. Why Bill got away with rape. Why the murder of Seth Rich was hushed up as “killed in a robbery gone wrong.” I could go on and on with examples of justice not done. I don’t think we should insist that the Saudis have a clean nose when ours is so dirty.
Perdicaris live or Raisuli dead
This echos an incident from 1904, when then President Theodore Roosevelt sent Marines ashore to attempt to get Ion Perdicaris, who had been a naturalized US citizen, but then later renounced his US citizenship and returned to Greece, freed from his captivity by a pirate/bandit insurgent leader Mulai Ahmed er Raisuli, in an attempt to get tribute from the Sultan of Morocco.
Not the first attempt to try to reason with Islamic weasels. Trying to negotiate with Muslims is sometimes rather like trying to nail Jell-O to the wall.
BFD from my viewpoint.
Likely less than %1 of Americans even know about this “incident”, and less even care.
It’s only being hyped by the media for their agenda.
So what do the Rats want Trump to do regarding Saudi Arabia?
I don’t know why Trunp even felt the need to comment on it.
The Saudis are corrupt, in-bred, violent Islamists. Any alliance with them is one of convenience. They are not our friends.
It is an issue that has gotten a lot of play all over the world for obvious reasons. One country murdering a US resident with such complete impunity in a third country is, shall we say highly unusual, especially when both countries are US allies. It is not possible for the US to avoid this issue and until the government takes a stance one way or the other the question will keep being asked, fairly I would say.
From a geopolitical perspective it may be a matter of who is more important to American interests in the Middle East, Turkey or Saudi Arabia. Neither one can be discounted and President Trump is in a very unenviable position. Either way, this is an important issue and I don’t see what good it does to pretend otherwise.
Deflect from the assault on Kavanaugh, Trumps outstanding economy, record breaking employment, record breaking growth...
The MSM is the Countrys greatest threat.
