The United States on Thursday downgraded the status of its main diplomatic mission to the Palestinians by placing it under the authority of the U.S. Embassy to Israel.
The move, which was immediately denounced by the Palestinians and hailed by Israel, is the latest Trump administration decision to align with Israeli government views and a victory for U.S. Ambassador David Friedman. He had long sought to end the Jerusalem consulates independent status but had faced resistance from within the State Department.
Friedmans push picked up steam in May after the Trump administration moved the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem over the vehement objections of the Palestinians, who claim the eastern part of the holy city as the capital of an eventual state.
The consulate had for years served as a de facto embassy to the Palestinians but will now be known as the Palestinian Affairs Unit of the embassy to Israel. It will remain in its current location, at least for now, the State Department said.
The step, which was announced by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, means that the Jerusalem consulate will no longer have a separate channel to Washington to report on Palestinian affairs and will no longer be run by a consul general with authorities tantamount to those of an ambassador.

The only things we should send the fakestinian occupiers of israel are some buses to return them to their own Moslem countries. Id be willing to help pay for that! But theyd just load up the buses with bombs and drive them into schools and markets .
I’m inclined towards declaring “Palestine” a sovereign country.
Should it, as such as entity, attack Israel, then Israel may, by right of conquest, invade & annex it outright.
No more silliness about it not really being a state, territory, whatever.
Total peace, or total war.
Bwahahahah!
Good move
This is so good it’s comically good. Thank you President Trump. May you be blessed by Him, and may He grant you success in the upcoming midterms. In the name of Yeshua His Son. Amen.
WOW!! Excellent news!
You mean that it only has a answering machine with only 20 minutes recording time that will only get cleared once per month by a secretary, as well as a general email address that is managed in similar manner?

It wasn't a "diplomatic mission" to the palestinians. It was a US Consulate. We have hundreds of those, as do most countries. Pandering to the Consulate, that was their choice, or State's, and made possible by being the only US Consulate which didn't report to our in country Embassy, but directly to State. And all these years, this Consulate managing relationships with the palestinians was in Jerusalem. Yes, that Jerusalem we've been told since 67 was an issue for negotiations, even parts in Israel pre 1967. In case the palestinians wanted that too I suppose. Till last year, and it was bipartisan till then. Now they're being combined. I mention bipartisan because, like many of the President's actions, this was a personal not a party decision.

Wow... great thought - seems original to me. It would not belong before Israel had a much more defensible border, although there would be some years of major internal problems in administering the mess.
I think on balance it would be worth the mess.
